By the way, the NCAA needs to stop requiring fax machines to send in LOI. Why the heck can't recruits submit it electronically?

Illinois is ranked 18 by Scout.com:

Headliners: A.J. Jenkins (WR), Reggie Ellis (DT)

Ron Zook is at it again and you can bet that as long as he’s in charge of this program that they will be a fixture in the top 20 recruiting rankings. The Illini grabbed a solid signal caller from the south in Jacob Charest (QB) and some quality backs in Mikel Leshoure, Jason Ford and Deries Hodge. They also landed some top flight players on the edge in A.J. Jenkins (WR) and Cordale Scott (WR). They should compliment Arrelious Benn very nicely in Champaign. Hubie Graham should develop into a quality tight end. Across the offensive front, Illinois is bringing in four OLs, including one of the better tackle prospects from the Midwest in Graham Pocic. Reggie Ellis (DT), Corey Liuget (DE) and Glenn Foster (DE) lead this defensive class. Donsay Hardemann (S) is one of the top JuCo defensive backs in the nation. Illinois would love to close with Jamie Harper (RB) away from the Sunshine State.

If Zook manages to pull Harper to Illinois I'd be blown away. He visited Illinois early before any other school, but he's also visited Miami and Florida State.

His scouting report:

Jamie Harper has good size and if he doesn’t blow by you he can run through you or make you miss. He runs with power, finishes runs and has a good stiff arm. He shows excellent quickness, hips, feet and the ability to make a defender look silly in the open field. Harper has good vision, balance and instincts and can stop on a dime and show extraordinary change of direction and athleticism. Harper has blazing speed and is so explosive.

He runs a 4.35 40! I'd call that blazing speed.

I can't wait until Wednesday to see what he decides. He'd get every opportunity to play right away at Illinois. That's got to be a big plus to Zook's pitch.

While I would love to see Harper at FSU, IMO he's headed to Clemson. Or at least that's what I've heard from my sources at FSU.

I know Clemson is a big player too. Honestly, I think he'll go to Illinois or Clemson. I'd be surprised if he went anywhere else. I'm crossing my fingers for Illinois. That would cap another great year recruiting for Zook.

two words that iowa fans will know: jason ford.

he's not as highly rated as harper, but imo, he's just as good, thicker and just as fast.

oh, and the illini get liuget!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take that lsu.

Yes, Jason Ford could be very good, but I highly doubt he will be as good as Harper.

to tell you the truth, harper doesn't impress me that much. he's a hard runner but he doesn't run especially strong. he has no real technique, he's gottem by on athletic ability thus far.

iirc, lemming has ford rated higher. i could be wrong, though.

FSU is having a big year. Great class, and several big fish still out there that we have a chance at, including Julio Jones (and possibly Robert Lester), Josh Jenkins, TJ Bryant, and Corey Liuget.

This could be a class that FINALLY gets us back to the upper echelon of college football.

Yeah....you can forget about Julio Jones. He's been a virtual lock to Alabama since the Alabama/Arkansas game. There's less then a 5% chances that Jones signs with any team not name Alabama come tomorrow. And it's even less for Robert Lester. FSU fans can forget Jones/Lester as FSU was never consider a "strong" possibility for either kid. And TJ Bryant, well the rumor around my neck of the words...if that TJ will be a surprise commit to Alabama. I don't buy the rumor, as I believe he'll end up at FSU. Which is might as well, seeing as Saban viewed both Alonzo Lawrence and Robby Green as higher priorities then Bryant.

Not to burst your bubble, but Jones has visited FSU more than any other school. Lester has made several unofficial visits to FSU without anyone knowing (I have this confirmed through ex-players).

All signs point to Lester going where Julio goes as a package deal.

But we'll find out around noon.

Well, fiddlesticks. Julio & Lester to Bama. I think FSU screwed the pooch on this one based on what I just heard.

Evidently Julio was a silent to FSU as of his official visit. Lester would have come with him, but he wasn't ever shipped an official scholarship - both FSU and Lester weren't convinced that either had serious interest in the other.

Due to this, Julio said I'll stay home. Doesn't hurt that his mom basically said you're staying here in Bama, either. Mom always knows best.

You can't "Screwed the pooch" if you were never in it.

Let's make it clear, Jones and Lester WAS NEVER a packaged deal. If they ended up at the same school---as they did at Alabama---fine, but never were considered a packaged deal. If they were, every team that was after Jones, would have been after Lester. OU and FSU was only after Lester, if it secured Jones signature. But let's not forget the fact that Lester is one heck of a S prospect for Alabama. He didn't need Jones to be recruited.

IDK where you get the info that Jones was a silent to FSU, but it isn't true. Andrew Bone of Tidesports.com---who is reliable (think Bruce Miles for Alabama football) reported that while Jones had some interests for FSU, the feeling was, Jones rarely consider FSU a serious contender, and that they were a "back burner, backup plan" team.

Yes, staying at home which is easier for your mom to see you play, did play a part in choosing Alabama. But so do Jones GF who enrolled at Alabama in January, I believe. Scott/Lester and Ray were constantly in his ear about playing together at Alabama. And the fact that he grew up a monster Alabama fan, also play alot in his decision. So you can see why, most Alabamians were not at all concerned about Jones signing with any other team not named Alabama.

Now I was surprise that TJ Bryant ended up at USC. That was a shocker.

I am going to refrain from making any substantial announcements, but I will say this...any Big Ten fan (or for those who are not SEC fans) that are tired of hearing about how great the SEC is, and blah, blah, blah, I can tell you, your not going to get a break in the next couple of yrs. The SEC just got stronger.

I'm amused at Arkansas getting 6-10 Matt Hall and 6-8 Anthony Oden to play OL. Oden is Greg's brother. Oden is also listed as a basketball recruit.

I guess I was hard on the Gophers. Looks as if Brewster did prety well:

Rivals.com ranked the class as the 16th best in the country and third best in the Big Ten -- behind traditional heavyweights Ohio State and Michigan.

This came from a couple of ex-players who still have VERY strong connections inside the program. They're extremely reliable and get me info 2-3 days before it normally comes out.

Interestingly enough, Josh Jenkins was also a silent commit. When his d-bag asst. coach found this out, they pulled out all the stops in W. Virginia, including offering a job (conditionally, I'm sure) to his brother as a graduate assistant. I credit this one to the slimebag Doc Holliday.

On the other hand, NO ONE knew where TJ Bryant was going. None of the ex-players, and certainly no one who coached at Lincoln High (my alma mater where I still keep in touch with many of the athletic staff and faculty).

Should be interesting, however. SEC had a strong class in all directions, as did Clemson and Miami. As an FSU fan I'm not happy about what we'll be facing every year.

Brewster in his first full year recruiting for Minnesota brings the goods. Seven 4 stars and eighteen 3 stars. In 2007 they had one 4 star and nine 3 stars with a class ranking of 57. Last year i though what Zook did was awesome, Brewster just matched it this year. I wonder what John L thinks of Brewsters class this year, that stupid bastard.

Crap. That's a hell of a lot of talent for a school like Minnesota, at least based on raw numbers. Good haul.

I think if KU can score another 9+ win season, we'll really heat up the recruiting trail. I'm excited.

i have a feeling that i'm going to hate rich rodriguez. lloyd carr was a boring, bland old guy that nobody could really hate. but rich rod seems like he can really be a dick.

It's good to see you're already hating after we stole one of your recruits today.

Sam McGuffie was waivering today about signing with Michigan, but he faxed in his letter of intent tonight. All in all, a pretty good recruiting class for Michigan. Quite impressive that Rich Rod was able to keep most of the recruits from Carr and add some of his own. I wasn't expecting such a good class with the coaching change taking place this offseason.

all's fair, we stole guys from maryland, miami and pitt in the past. but seriously, i think rich rodriguez is probably a dick.

LMAO!

I think there are a few people in the state of W. Virginia who would agree with you.

Yeah, when he was talking about wanting to give out a lot of schoolies i wasnt anticipating anything all that great. He did much better than what i would of guessed, a 15-20 ranked class would of been alright. They did lose another high prized Michigan born recruit to USC though, thats starting to piss me off.

Perhaps...but Andrew Bone is as reliable to Alabama football, as Bruce Miles is to this board. Which is high praise, and if he says that Lester/Jones were not a packaged deal, and Jones was never SERIOUSLY consider FSU, I will take his word for it, as he has been right on the money for the past 2 yrs

I think ONE PERSON got an inclination of where Bryant was going, and his name is current Alabama commit Melvin Ray.

I have nothing against FSU, I really don't, but I do believe Bowden is starting to hold the program back. I have the utmost respect to Bobby and JoePa but both really do need to retired.

Rivals.com has K-State ranked 28th in the nation.

I read somewhere they have an obscene amount of JUCOs, like 20. Is that true?

always

zook brought in 3 top 100 recruits last year, including 2 top 10 players. if you want to talk this year, according to scout, illinois has the 18th best recruiting class in the country, while minnesota is at 28.

brewster's not there yet, but well on his way. by the time zook's ready to hang it up, brewster will be ready to step right in for him without missing a beat. haha.
