According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Pirates are interested in signing Paul Bako to a minor league contract after missing out on Johnny Estrada.

 

While Estrada would have been a legitimate threat to Ronny Paulino's starter status, Bako is no more than a backup option.

Wow. The Pirates really love last place, don't they.

 

No but I'm sure they love being a small market team burdened with a horrible GM that can't draft or can't produce major leaguers from their system.

I do remember where he said he would look at more obscure metrics in evaluating talent. However, that doesn't necessarily mean he knows what they mean or how to use them. :wink:
