The Cubs and the Padres will play in the final Hall of Fame game on June 16th, in Cooperstown, NY. It's an exhibition game.

Can't wait for someone to get a season ending injury in this game!

I remember when the Cubs did this in like I want to say 1995. The players play for an inning, and its usually a bunch of minor leaguers after that. The starting pitcher is usually the long reliever or a AAA pitcher. It sucks to use an off day on this though. The last one that was on was actually broadcast on WGN, maybe this one will.

Last year Tomo Ohka started (on his throwing day) for the Rangers and Scott Williamson started for the Orioles.

This is the HOF websites recap of the game:

Cubs Streak Past Tigers, July 31, 1995

In their first head-to-head encounter since the 1945 World Series, the Tigers and Cubs met on Doubleday Field and this time, the Cubs won, 8-6. Future Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson, in his final managerial season, was in one dugout, with Cubs manager Jim Riggleman in the other. The visiting Cubs struck first when third baseman Howard Johnson hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. The Cubs added another run in the fourth to open up a 3-0 lead. In the top of the sixth, the Detroit bats came alive as they put together a rally leading to five runs. The big blows were Juan Samuel's two-run home run and Chris Gomez' two-run double. Down 5-3 in the sixth inning, Scott Bullett came to the plate for Chicago with two men on, and promptly homered giving the Cubs a 6-5 lead. The Cubs added insurance runs in the eighth inning, as Bullett and Johnson hit back-to-back home runs, each hitting their second of the game. Ben Burlingame picked up the win. Sammy Sosa won the home run derby before the game, belting seven home runs.

They also played in 1988:

Fit to Be Tied: Cubs, Cleveland a Light Scoring Affair, 1-1, Aug. 1, 1988

Just seven days before the lights were scheduled to be turned on for night games for the first time in the history of Wrigley Field, the Cubs came to light-free Doubleday Field and played to a 1-1 tied with the Cleveland Indians, in a game called after nine innings of play. The Cubs' Don Zimmer managed against Doc Edwards. The home run derby before the game went to a playoff round as Andre Dawson and Cory Snyder each hit four homers in the first round. In the playoff round, Dawson crushed two and edged out by Snyder's three home runs. The Cubs scored in the top of the first inning on Ryne Sandberg's home run. The Indians plated a run in the bottom of the eight inning, with Willie Upshaw singling home the run. After nine innings, the umpires chatted with managers Zimmer and Edwards and decided to call the game, with the Cubs traveling to Shea Stadium to play the Mets, and the Indians to Memorial Stadium to face the Orioles, the next day. The tie was the fourth in Game history and the first tie to be played in nine innings.

Khailil Greene vs his former team, the Padres.

Matt Murton vs his former team, the Cubs.

Maybe Mark Prior will start the game as part of his rehab assignment.

Wouldnt that be something...

Now that I'm thinking about it, I actually fully expect that to happen.

Why don't they just make it a regular season game?

it's not in an MLB authorized park

That seems like an easy enough loophole to close.

The dimensions are smaller than the typical high-school field.

Juan Pierre could bunt a home run.

The Cubs will have played in both the first (1940) and last Hall of Fame games. And it's fitting that the game is against the Fathers since it is being played on Father's Day weekend. :D

If Murphy's Law has anything to say about it the game will be rained out, and they won't be able to find a makeup date that fits both teams' schedules.

It's also ironic that the announcement was made on the anniversary of the announcement of the first induction class (it was on this date in 1936 that the first class was announced). So Jan. 29 is a date for announcing HOF firsts and lasts.

The problem with this scenerio is that, like a groundhog, Prior will see his shadow get injured, and miss the season.

Really, how pathetic am I that I remember HoJo's homer?

I remember it because it was pretty much the only memorable thing he did for the Cubs, unless you consider sucking memorable.
