Mariners get: Bedard (Orioles), Murton (Cubs)

Royals get: Clement (Mariners), Patterson (Cubs)

Orioles get: Jones, Sherrill, Triunfel (Mariners), Pie, Marshall (Cubs)

Cubs get: Dejesus (Royals), Roberts, Payton (Orioles)

Mariners get #1 starter and replacement for Jones.

Royals get needed young C and young 2B/utility OF for expendable CF.

Orioles get CF, LF, #4 or #5 starter, lefty RP, and future SS.

Cubs get CF, leadoff man 2B, and reserve OF.

Won't happen, but it's fun to try (got to do something while we wait). Can you imagine trying to get 4 GMs together on a deal, especially when two of them are JH and AM. Cubs could still use DeRosa, Dempster, plus ??? for Burnett.

Roberts

DeJesus

DLee

ARam

Fukudome

Soriano

Soto

Theriot

The one thing linking all these crazy trades you make up is that we rarely give up anything significant and we always get exactly what we need.

The reason for that is that usually the trade has prospects going to a team that needs prospects, so it doesn't really look like we're giving up anything significant. To a team going nowhere like the Orioles, getting possible 5-tool players like Pie and Jones, possibly a future All Star in Triunfel, a lefty RP and starter could make them serious contenders in 2 years. Would that be true if they kept Bedard, Roberts, and Payton? To be honest, I'm one of the posters who thinks the rumored Roberts deal is giving up too much for a marginal upgrade at 2B.

"One caveat: I've moved past threesomes. I'm now into foursomes. If someone backs out, then you've still got a threesome. If two people back out, you're still having sex." - Dr. Gregory House

Seems to apply to Backtobanks, also.

I assumed as soon as i saw this thread that it would be a 3-or-more team deal.

Seems to me when you boil it down, you've got:

Marshall + Patterson + Murton for Roberts + Payton.

Not too far afield from some of the rumors we're hearing. Replacing Gallagher with Marshall makes it a little light, but if the Cubs take on all of Payton's contract, it's not hard to imagine that being the deal-clincher. The O's have no use for that guy, and at $5M, his trade value is negative.

Leaving the second half of the deal:

Pie for DeJesus.

Pass on that one. DeJesus doesn't do a whole lot for me. I look at that guy and wonder what he puts at the top of his resume. He doesn't excel at getting on base. He doesn't hit for power. He doesn't run much. His defense is nothing special. And until 2007, he couldn't stay on the field for the full year. Maybe his contract is the major selling point. Hardly much to get excited about there. And for Pie? No thanks.

Seems mostly fair all the way around for each team.

And that's exactly why it will never happen.

Bavasi only does that trade if he wants to see what an angry mob would look like.

Is Bavasi smart enough to know what an angry mob looks like?

I'm currently working on a 30 team deal that should make everyone happy. Please stick around and refresh this page often. :D
