some have theorized (and I have yet to see it disproven) that it was actually Geo in a Jim Edmonds suit who made that catch last night

I suspected that as well. The player who made the catch didn't have his midsection exposed at the time, which was the giveaway.

Its still a little early in the voting process. I would expect to see him close the gap in the next week or two. How much though is tough to tell.

I am pretty sure Vance is doing his part.

Orestes Destrade talking up Geovany "G-Money" (because he's been g-money) Soto on BBTN and comparing him and McCann to Piazza.

More like he should be comparing Piazza to Soto, amirite?

When was the last time the Cubs had a catcher this good? I think it is safe to say that Soto will eclipse Barrett's best season with the club by a mile (.287/.337/.489, 16 HR, 65 RBI in 2004).

Best season for a Cubs catcher ever was Gabby Hartnett in 1930 when he went .339/.404/.630, 37 HR, 122 RBI. I think it's unlikely that Soto will do anything like that, but Soto already might be the best catcher the Cubs have had since Hartnett.

Wow, I didnt realize a Cubs catcher ever put up a line like that. Yeah, you always hear Hartnett's name in discussions of Cubs greats, but I always assumed that it was in relative terms to the stats of the day. .630 SLG?!?! In 1930!?!? Yeesh.

That wasn't even the best season on the team as that was also the year Wilson Hacked his way to 191 RBI.

The 1930 Cubs scored 998 runs, hitting .309/.374/.481 as a team.

WHERE ARE YOU GUYS SEEING THE VOTE TOTALS?

Apparently nobody is willing to share.

he had a solid game tonight.

We all know he was holding back. He didn't want to embarrass anyone by driving in 10 by himself.

also, in furthering the point of his humble-ness, he refused to use homeruns to clear the bases, rather sacrificing an RBI, and leaving himself in scoring position for his teammates. Using a homerun only when no one was on, thus not offending anyone

average NL catcher: .256/.329/.391

soto: .285/.368/.509

soto was 3rd in vorp coming into tonight... i'd say that mauer and mccann have been better, but that's it. pretty damn good for a guy who projected as a backup coming into last season.

When you factor in pure sexiness, Soto takes the top spot.

Arguably a top 10 catcher in the national league.

at least top three. I think he's the best in the NL, but you can argue for McCann and Martin. I can't put anyone else above Soto. The only real thing that McCann does better in strikeout less, 52 to 106

Hey, guess what? Soto leads all catchers in strikeouts!!! 106 k's!!!

ps. How long until I am found murdered in my house by angry North Side Baseballers?

I doubt it'll happen. Most people here are smart enough to realize strikeouts hardly matter.
