I don't get the complaints about the move for the White Sox.

Sure, it doesn't much affect their playoffs chances in 2008, but it's not solely a 2008 story. I'd be very happy to turn 3 B prospects into a solid young major leaguer who is under team control at a fair price for several years.

Don't kid yourself about "3 B prospects". They were 3 of the top 8 in the Sox farm system.

Actually the 2 pitchers were B+ prospects and Sweeney was a C+ prospect.

I was actually surprised they were able to get Swisher without giving away Josh Fields who i thought was going to be traded when I heard the trade go down. Good for the Sox they were able to hang on to him. The WSox offense will be nice but their rotation and bullpen are huge ? marks.

Will the offense be nice? They were the worst in the AL last year. Are Swisher and Cabrera really going to make up that much of a difference?

Dont forget about Carlos Quentin, and a full year of Josh Fields. Their offense should be better just by not playing Darrin Erstad so much, but they have no chance in that division.

Are they sticking Quentin in center?

i think the plan is to play swisher mostly in center.

Why do people say "3 of the top 10 White Sox prospects" anyway? What does that mean? Baseball America rated the White Sox farm system 29th in baseball, didn't they? Except for Gonzalez, those guys wouldn't be in the top of most team's systems. Who were the Sox's top prospects 3 years ago? Their list was something like Brian Anderson, Robert Valido, Ray Liotta, Ryan Sweeney, Sean Tracey, Pedro Lopez, and Kris Honel.

This reminds me of when people predicted doom for the White Sox for trading Brandon McCarthy. Who cares. They got a great deal. It's possible if Gio Gonzalez is good in a few years he'll be making more than Nick Swisher anyway, that's how good Swisher's contract is. It wouldn't surprise me if Swisher puts up a .900+ OPS in 2008. And then people will say "No one saw it coming."

Owens had 383 PAs of 636 OPS

Erstad had 338 PAs of 645 OPS

Pods had 225 PAs of 668 OPS

Alex Gonzalez had 200 PAs of 529 OPS

Thats 2 full time players of sub 650 OPS who are going to be replaced by Swisher, Quentin, and Uribe.

And they were 3rd to last in OPS last year and 2nd to last in EQA, so albeit close, they weren't the worst offensive.

More time for Fields is probably a good thing for that team in 2008 as well.

This really isn't going to happen, but w/e. Making up stuff is fun.

I could see them trading Crede and Konerko for Figgins and either prospects or some pitching help.

CF - Figgins

SS - OCab

1B - Swisher

DH - Thome

RF - Dye

3B - Fields

C - Pierzynski

LF - Quentin

2B - Uribe

That seems like something KW and Ozzie would be pretty interested in.

holy cow

Oh man, and I liked Swish too. This feels kinda like when Joe Girardi joined the Yankees the first time.

Why, what's happening with Fields that he won't be able to play in more than 100 games in 2008? At 3rd base they gave away 72 .365 OPS ABs to Andy Gonzalez, 163 .578 OPS ABs to Joe Crede, 50 .629 OPS ABs to Cintron, and 24 .612 OPS ABs to Ozuna. Those are some pretty pitiful numbers, you'd figure Fields playing at 3b full time can improve upon their aggregate .641 OPS even if he's a strikeout prone lefty masher at best.

you still didnt answer the question? which will then make you realize my point.

You didn't answer my question. I don't mind if you point out the flaws in my reasoning because then I learn something, but I don't care for when you just make some wise-ass quip and don't actually shed any light on why I came to the wrong conclusion.

because they have four guys for two positions.

Only two of {Owens, Quentin, Fields, Crede} can play

I was under the distinct impression that it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Crede was going to be shipped off for some crappier crap, and that Owens would ride the pine (but Ozzie would still feel a need to get him 250 PA).

C - Pierzynski

1B - Konerko

2B - Richar? Uribe?

SS - OCab

3B - Fields

LF - Quentin

CF - Swisher

RF - Dye

DH - Thome

Then again, that could just be my imagination...

(I'd say) Crede being dealt and Fields getting most of the 3B at-bats is a pretty safe bet.

This is true in more ways than one.
