Please stop talking about "windows" when discussing the Chicago National League Ball Club.

are you serious?

why?

There's no reason anyone associated with the Chicago Cubs should ever think in terms of "our window is closing".

The Cubs have enough resources to have a perpetually open window.

On one hand, the structure of MLB, combined with the financial advantage the Cubs have over the competition, should allow them to maintain a contending team year in and year out. On the other hand, the absurd contracts Jim Hendry has handed out could lead to serious trouble in a couple of years.

I think they have a windown in 2008/2009, but I think they can reopen one right after that one closes, if the new owner hires smart people to run the baseball team.

More Sox fans seem dissappointed about the trade than excited about it..Gave up 3 of their top prospects so now their farm system is depleted..

White Sox acquired outfielder Nick Swisher from the Athletics for LHP Gio Gonzalez, outfielder Ryan Sweeney and RHP Fautino De Los Santos.

It's going to be interesting to see how the White Sox try to fit these pieces together. If they're willing to use Swisher in center field, they're improving their lineup immensely with the deal, though it's at a steep cost in the team's top two pitching prospects and the still promising Sweeney. If they're doing it with the idea of using Swisher in left field, leaving no room for Carlos Quentin, then the deal could prove to be a major bust. We're guessing they'll pencil him into center for now but continue to look for alternatives. Either way, Swisher gets a nice upgrade in fantasy value with the switch to the AL's best home run park. He'll be a threat to hit 35-40, especially if the White Sox are smart enough to hit him second. Jan. 3 - 2:31 pm et

I could get behind Blanton and he would help the team, but I would rather hold out until some sort of power arm (Burnett?) is available. Contact pitchers without great stuff are unpredictable (see "Jason Marquis--first half"). It's like going to the Casino every month banking on you winning enough to pay off your bills.

But, i'm no expert on Blanton (maybe i'm mistaken) and he would help our team with all the innings he could pitch, so I guess I wouldn't dismiss giong after him. Going to the NL might help him too.

Doesn't seem like such a bad deal for the White Sox They say that Swisher is a great person to have in the clubhouse, and 22 homers isn't too bad. Certainly an upgrade over Merton, right? (I would put Swisher in left and not in right( The more I think about it, I wish the Cubs would have acquired him ---the only thing is, what would we have to give up?

"Argueably the best pitcher in the minor league system, along with two other prospects .... all for a career .251 hitter???"

"We need a lead-off with wheels, not a .260 base clogger." (Dusty?)

"It all started with letting go Aaron Rowand."

"Swisher= not that good. He'll be hurt by June" (yeah, forget the 2 straight years of 500+ AB's)

"Who?" (ROFL)

yes...all of this makes sense...

my proposed window is probably all of our windows though...2008...

with the right move this organization can field a team with a very good chance...santana to the red sox be damned...

i am just tired of going in on a wing and a prayer...go in with a damn good chance and if they fail...oh well

"is it just me, or is kdubb making this THE most average mediocre team ever. i'd almost wish he'd sign a steroid guy, that way i'd have confidence he actually WANTS to win. i really don't think he cares"

"I am switching to the Cubs, who at least get DECENT PLAYERS."

Being the White Sox GM should be the easiest thing ever, just do the exact opposite of what your idiot fans want and you should be fine.

They think that Aaron Rowand>Jim Thome and that Joe Crede is a superstar. They loved the Darin Erstad signing and wanted to go after David Eckstein.

Hell, they also think that Harold Baines should be in the HOF along with Ozzie Guillen.

They thought that Albert Belle was the reason they sucked those 2 years (ya, the 100 HR and 250 RBI really dragged the team down).

I really thought that all Sox fans would like this move, what with Swisher's long hair and unkept beard. He looks like he's from Alsip.

Seriously, if any white sox fan is upset over this trade then they should commit ritualistic suicide. help the gene pool by taking away stupidity!! its a great move for them. i am upset, I always thought in the back of my mind that swisher would be a cub. just like thome, the sox take a player I really like, and now I must hate.

The guy is the second coming of Jose Valentin. Avg to bad outfielder and infielder, avg power and typical batting average numbers with an obp. He also only hits .250 against right handed pitching despite his switch-hitting capabilities, and he is terribly slow.

On a team with so many question marks and rotation problems, I don't see why you would give up one of the best AL pitching prospects around for an average guy like Swisher.

On the opposite end of this, how has Bean done to build his farm up with these deals? He's not at Florida's level but he has to have made it pretty strong.
