While waiting for the baseball offices to reopen, here's a deal to contemplate:

Dodgers get: Crede (White Sox)

White Sox get: Pierre & $15 million (Dodgers) and Marshall (Cubs)

Cubs get: Hu (Dodgers)

If Hu isn't ready to take over at SS in 2008, he certainly should be ready in 2009.

I read the thread title and didn't even have to look at the author to know who it was :D

I would have to think the Dodgers could do much better than Crede for Hu, Pierre and 15 mil. Of course, that doesn't mean Coletti would ask for more. It would be a marvelous trade for the Cubs, regardless.

A smart GM would realize that Joe Crede is complete garbage. Of course a smart GM wouldn't have given his left nut for Juan Pierre.

One small problem: Chin-lung Hu can't hit. Ronny Cedeno > Chin-lung Hu

True Story.

Well, he split his time between AA and AAA last year and hit a combined .325, 14 HRs, 40 doubles, slugged .505, and was selected Dodgers' Minor League Player of the Year. Sure sounds like he has the potential to be a very good major league SS. As for Crede being garbage, the Dodgers are rumored to be thinking about Rolen (expensive, injured garbage). Also, getting anything out of Crede would be worth ditching Pierre (plus $15 million) and the other $21.5 million owed to him.

I haven't been following closely at all. But, would/are the Dodgers looking for a third baseman considering they have Andy Laroche? If they feel Laroche needs a bit more time in AAA then I'm guessing they would play Nomar there considering they are paying him well.

Answer: Ned Colletti worships at the temple of Sabean. Which means if a player isn't collecting Social Security he sucks.

In that case, let's trade Cedeno for Hu. I like Hu's chances of succeeding in Chicago better than Cedeno's.

a sub 850 OPS in Vegas is pathetic.

These Park Factors are probably pretty crappy (as all park factors are), but still thought I should post them.

I wasn't looking at Hu to replace ARod, but more for the old-fashioned middle infielder who can hit for average, run, and field his position. We'll leave the slugging to Soriano, DLee, and ARam.

Why settle for that when you can power everywhere? Of the Dodgers SS, I'd much rather have Furcal, even with his contract.

That James Loney and his .727 Vegas OPS in more games than Hu must really suck too.

He also put up a 972 there the year before.

That doesn't seem like it lets him off the hook though. If Felix Pie went back to Iowa and posted a .727 OPS I think we'd all have a good reason to be pretty concerned. Furthermore, we are comparing a shortstop's offense vs. a first baseman.

What's the point in trading Cedeno for a similar player with a lower ceiling?

Cedeno's got the potential to be a good fielder, but Hu is already GG calibur. With both, you get the chance they hit for something, and if they don't you atleast get premium defense at the position with Hu.

Plus the fact that I think Cedeno is falling into the same category as Murton and Marshall......players that Lou doesn't believe in and won't give them a fair shot at a starting job. I think all three of them have a good chance to be successful, but it won't be with the Cubs.

Park factors are right up there with wins for a pitcher in metric importance. Outside of a few exceptions the numbers mean nothing.

Park factor is a term people use when they want to appear to know something that others don't.

When using park factor to move a player from one park to another, remember the numbers are not predictions

Just what we need, another Dodger SS who drives in runs with his glove.
