Fairly Stupid Fukudome question

Anyway, thanks for the heads up...apparently, there are a number of outlets online that are going to have some merchandise issues. Its fairly amazing to me considering its all based upon a childish mispronunciation of his last name.

 

I imagine most of them will set it straight once Fukudome is introduced this week.

 

Has anyone heard what day his press conference is yet?

 

I have to imagine the Cubs marketing department would want it as early as possible to capitalize on the buzz coupled with the Christmas season. My guess is that they have already shipped a number of jerseys to local sports stores in the hopes that people haven't quite finished Christmas shopping yet.

I apologize for bumping a month old thread, but it appears this particular mini-issue has been resolved. It was in question in the first place because despite what we (I) predicted about him wearing KOSUKE on his jersey and then his jersey at the press conference having FUKUDOME on it, Kosuke will not be an official member of the player's association until he first sets foot on an MLB baseball diamond. As such, Majestic Athletic needed to have a deal in place with him and his representation before they could mass-produce any merchandise.

 

It appears such has been completed and it appears he will indeed wear FUKUDOME on the back. Both Wrigleyville Sports and Cub World are now displaying t-shirts with FUKUDOME 1 on the back, and up until yesterday, Wrigleyville Sports displayed both possible variations with the explanation I just gave above, alongside a promise to display the correct outcome once the matter was resolved. Additionally, Kosuke's name has been added to the custom jersey script at the MLB.com Shop, use of which to select a custom Kosuke Fukudome jersey yields a FUKUDOME 1 uniform.

 

That answers that, I guess. I needs me a t-shirt.

Cub World says their orders for the shirts won't ship until the 21st; if the merchandise deal was just completed a few days ago, it makes sense that the shirts wouldn't hit shelves, proverbial or otherwise, for a couple of weeks yet.

If you ordered a custom-made KOSUKE 1 t-shirt (from something like this) then I imagine you'll get exactly what you ordered.

 

If you ordered the "official" jersey shirt from a retailer (this) then you'll get whatever the official product ends up being, which appears to be FUKUDOME.

Not sure if I missed this in another thread, but based on the Cubs.com shop and updates on wrigleyvillesports.com, it now looks like Fukudome will go with 'Fukudome' on the back of his Cubs jersey. This should make a lot of people very happy. I'll be getting an order in for 'Fukudome' jersey shirt shortly. :D

At convention they are selling authentic jerseys with Fukodome on the back but only the home whites, no road greys yet , During the opening ceremonies at the convention there was a photo of Fuku holding a Fukodome Jersey and a Koskue Jersey so for awhile even the Cubs didn't know which he would choose.
