How about offering the Royals Murton, Marshall, Petrick/Pignatello, and Patterson for Teahan and Greinke? Do we need to add another prospect? This would get the Cubs another lefty bat and a young #4 starter. It wouldn't solve speedy leadoff problem, but I think it would be a solid move.

Where would you play Teahan?

Yeah, with the news that Fukudome is very likely to play RF, Teahen is positionless on our team.

I simultaneously love the idea of buying low on Greinke and fear him going Ankiel on us if we were to acquire him.

If Pie gets traded, you put Teahan in RF and Fukudome in CF. If we could just convince Soriano to play CF, we would be set.

We have a speedy lead off guy. Soriano.

I don't think you'd be offering nearly enough for Teahen and Greinke.

The earlier discussion on Murton and Teahan showed stats that were basically the same. If we need to add another prospect in addition to Marshall, Petrick/Pignatello, and Patterson to get Greinke, so be it.

Don't know how many times we're going to go over this, Soriano is playing LF and Kouske is coming to play RF so barring injuries this is what's happening. Therefor a trade for Teahen is basically redundant i have a bad feeling jim is licking his lips thinking about the odog now that burke has arrived from houston.

I'd rather have Hochevar and Butler, but whatever.

I'm sure the Angels would be pretty darn interested in Teahen. Orioles too. Just two teams we've been linked with. Theres a couple teams out there that would be very interested in a pre-arbi 3b whos put up an 874 OPS season.

A much more minor deal--but the player we could use from the Royals--is Joey Gathright. He'd be a much better 4th OF option than either Angel Pagan or Sam Fuld. That's the role he'll fill in KC too; he isn't going to start over Guillen, DeJesus or Teahan.

I bet you could get KC interested in something like a Cedeno for Gathright deal; would you do it? The Cubs seem committed to Theriot over Cedeno at SS, so if you're looking at a bench player, wouldn't you rather have Gathright's speed and defense on your bench than Cedeno's spotty defense and marginally better SLG? I would.

I think it would be easier to get DeJesus than Teahen. They will have a decent 3-6, with Teahen, Guillen, Butler, and Gordon.

Hillman said Gordon is going to bat 7th because it "seems" like it always comed up late in games.

I love stupid people.

Why would the Cubs want DeJesus if they decide to keep Pie? Pie has a better upside than DDJ: he's faster, he's a better defender, he's younger, and he's cheaper. I've watched DeJesus a lot the past couple seasons, he's no great shakes. His power never developed and he's not a big threat on the basepaths. He makes the routine play in CF but he's no gold-glover. Pass.

Why would we want a really fast guy who doesn't walk, can't really steal bases at that high of a level, and is a below average fielder? I don't want any part of Gathright.

For a guy so fast "he jumps over cars" Gathright is a crap basestealer. I don't see what he'd add to the Cubs.

DeJesus isn't worth falling all over to get to.

I have yet to see any indications at all that the Royals are "selling low" on Greinke, nor do I think Wrigley is a good place for emotionally frail guys like him.

I would pass on DeJesus too, what happened to him last year? He has zero pop at all and again doesn't get on base enough. Plus his defense is nowhere near comparable to what Pie would give you.

Never said I wanted DeJesus, just that KC would be more willing to give him up of their OFs. My reasoning is because they do have Joey Gathright who can play CF, put up nearly the same numbers, and is faster.

DeJesus is pretty popular around here though. I think that coupled with the fact he is a much better player than Gathright will cause him to stay over Joey. Kansas City has to deside what they are going to do with Butler first. If they are going to play him at first and DH Guillen then they don't have to move an outfielder at all.

As shocking as it sounds I don't think the Royals are sellers.

The young talent is going to give them a decent lineup this year or next and Grienke, Bannister, Meche, Hochevar give them a shot at having a real rotation. I think they start to put their best team on the field and see if they can't start building up the fan base again.

The problem is they can't compete in that division. Detroit goes out this offseason and adds Miguel Cabrera to an already very good lineup. I do like some of the moves they are making, but then they go and pay Jose Guillen this offseason, why? Just because you cleared Sweeney's money off of the books it doesn't mean you have to spend it. Plus the rumor around town was they were hard after Andruw Jones before he signed with LA. That's brilliant. Tie up a bunch of money so you can't afford to keep Bulter and Gordon.
