Hmmm...that big list you guys posted...is that steroids or amphetamines or both? Because Neifi is on that list...I thought he was busted for amphetamines. I can't fathom that he was on steroids...

Nope. They didn't look into amphetamines, which just makes the list more of a joke.

Yeah, Peter Gammons already making sure we realize that "Superman with a Rocket" Roger could have just been on HGH so he could get all Hulked out in a couple days to be ready for another go 'round on da rodeo...

Anybody else concerned about the amount of former Cubs on the list? I count atleast 13.

Alexander, Farnsworth, Nomar, Hairston, Heredia, Lawton, Machado, Perez, Prior, Palmeiro, Sosa, Taverez, Wood.

Why?

I don't get the assumption that steroids make you good. They make you capable of building body mass (muscle) faster than you would before. They don't increase your ability to see the ball, or your hand-eye coordination. They make your body grow.

And for that matter - someone said earlier that roids dont make you fat (in connection to kerry Wood) and I disagree with that. When I was younger I had to take some medicine for my asthma that had some kind of steroid in it and I shot up in weight really quickly. Granted - The roids these guys were taking probably only affected muscles - but I'm no doctor and I don't know exactly how roids work.

Alexander, Nomar, Hairston, Heredia, Lawton, Palmeiro and Tavarez were Cubs for like 2 days.

Not really...

Alexander hasnt played with the Cubs since 99 if I'm correct

Nomar was almost certainly juicing well before becoming a Cubs (think 2001 SI cover)

Hairston same thing

Heredia hasnt played with the Cubs since like 2001

Lawton was a Cub for like 3 weeks

Machado hasnt played for the Cubs since like 2002

Palmeiro hasnt played for the Cubs since the 80's

Taverez hasn't played since 2002

That leaves Farnsworth, Perez, Prior, Sosa and Wood. Wood is the only current Cubs on the list.

Not really. Of those you have a few obvious ones (Slammin' Sammy and Slammin' Farnsy), a couple of guys who were probably shoving needles up their wazzoo's long before they wore Cubbie blue (Nomar, Lawton, Neifi, Taverez, etc.), a few who may have been needle virgins until after our involvement ended (Raffy), and a few sad surprises (Prior, Wood). About what I'd expect of our involvement in the Super Duper Who Was A Juicer Witch Hunt 2007 lottery. I'm just glad current guys like A-Ram, D-Lee, and Fonzie apparently aren't implicated. Because it makes me think their contributions might even spike as the league gets flushed and re-flushed of cheaters.

Muh world ain't rocked.

No. the only guys ou tof those that spent any considerable amount of their careers on the cubs were Farnsworth, Sosa, Wood, and Prior.

Everyone else was here for a season or two, maybe three, then went on to another team. That, to me, carries the assumption that they were doing them while on other teams as well. And even Sosa and Farnsworth were not on the cubs their entire careers.

Besides, I'm pretty sure we've figured out by this point that steroids were just a part of baseball in the 90's and the early part of this decade. It's not a pleasant thought - but it's becoming more and more of a blatantly obvious fact.

On the assumption that steroids make you good- you get stronger. Being stronger helps in just about any sport.

Looking for a silver lining, now that it's out in the open, maybe Pujols and LaRussa can save money and the environment by carpooling to their substance abuse counselor.

Ouch

Maybe it just means we have something else to pimp-smack Dusty Baker about. Not only did he run the guys into the ground, he didn't catch and put a stop to Kerry and Mark juicing. Going to have to guess they might have learnt about it from another guy who had been around a lot longer, lol.

Anyway, just making fun. Who cares, what's done is done. I'm feeling really optimistic about 2008 now.

so far the couple of Cardinal fans I talked to are in denial that Pujols juiced, it's kind of funny.

wow..there are alot of "smaller" guys on this list..they must have not cycled them properly.

Who says they took the big 'bulk up your muscles' style steroids? Don't runners sometimes take roids to make themselves be able to grow leg muscle and run faster? They never bulk up too big. Again - I could be wrong. But it seems to me that the assumption that Roids = Big Bulky Superhuman Athlete is kinda silly.

True, but you have to be able to hit the ball first. Neifi wasn't too good at that.

You don't get bodybuilder huge just by taking roids, you still have to eat right/work out a certain way and have the right genetics for it.

Yeah, there are leaner mass roids...but there are guys that took them, and there production was still terrible. Neifi Perez? LMAO.

Assuming the list to be accurate (which even if accurate, is inaccurate), I am curious how many of the pitchers on that list took them to recover more quickly from injury and/or surgery. Seemed kind of odd that players had more recently been able to recover magically quicker from TJS than they had been before.

Anabolic steroids just help your muscles recover more quickly allowing someone to work out harder without breaking down. The ability to work out more often without breaking down muscle mass is what allows athletes to build mass, endurance, or whatever else. They type of training you are doing is going to determine whether you bulk up (weight training), increase stamina or endurance (cardio-vascular), etc....
