It's funny how of all the rumors we're hearing, not one of them addresses the biggest offensive hole in the lineup. Some of them even address areas of strength. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but it's beyond ridiculous.

I know you're speaking of SS. But I don't agree with you on CF and RF.

RF for one, we have Murton. Who could have a decent year but he will not be Fukudome good. KFUKU has very good defense on top of better offense.

CF you have Pie. And Pie is no guarantee to be anything. So if they do get Figgins I think it's a huge upgrade.

2B is the only one I can agree with you on. I was on Derosa's side ever since I heard of the trade. I'd like him to be our 2B. But if Roberts can put up Derosa #'s + 50 SB I'm still happy with that. So we'll have a somewhat black hole in SS (BTW, it's still much better than it has been in a few years). If we get FUKU, FIG, and ROB I think that's going to be a very good offense. Not only that, maybe we can finally get some stability in the line-up.

Figgins could be a huge upgrade or a marginal one. His stats this year were great, but his OBP was fueled by his high BA. It really doesn't look like much changed except more of his hits fell in. If he settles back around a .300 average, which is likely his upgrade will look marginal for the cost.

Does anyone know what his linedrive % and his pitches per AB?

Thanks! 4.0 pitches per AB, how does that compare to the average?

NL average is about 3.75.

Chone Figgins-3B-Angels Dec. 8 - 7:46 pm et

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Angels are telling teams Chone Figgins won't be available unless they acquire a third baseman.

Figgins hit .330/.393/.432 last year and fits in very well with the way Mike Scioscia runs his offense. With Alex Rodriguez and Miguel Cabrera out of the picture, it just doesn't make much sense for the Angels to upgrade at third base. Still, no one is ruling them out as a possibility to trade for Scott Rolen. The Cubs are thought to be interested in Figgins.

Sounds like it'd need to be a 3-team deal if we wanna land him.

Do those happen often? Does anyone know?

Kaplan is terrible. He must always preface all these fabricated stories that "he talked to 3 General Managers'-although he fails to mention who. Last week he was fawning all over Fukedome's agent that "Cub fans are requesting Fukedome jerseys." What number would that be, David?

He needs to just settle down and quit being such a lap dog.

Interesting first post. You blast a reporter for not revealing his sources and for implying there is no way Cubs fans could actually be requesting Fukudome jerseys because he doesn't have an official number yet.

Yes, interesting.

I don't know if I've ever read an article where a journalist questions several NL executives about the same topic where their names were revealed. I am kind of leaning towards some writers making the crap up, though. Some of the quotes these guys get about certain topics seem to funny or wise-allecky to come from a GM

Reporter? Kaplan only knows what Jim Hendry tells him to say. His constant references to his free golf games, free dinners and having guests on to get free stuff is a little much. To tell me that Kerry Wood is some kind of hero because he re-signed with the Cubs, when the guy had no firm offers on the table from any other club, is laughable. But Kaplan thinks it must be important to promote Wood all he can to us fans.

Wow, you really hate Dave Kaplan.

??? Wood would've had plenty of offers.

While we don't know how firm the other offers were, based on the report when he was signed, we did give him the most attractive offer by a fair margin. I completely agree in the point that Wood doesn't deserve to be deified for taking the best offer.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2008/12/cubs-inquire-ab.html

LAS VEGAS -- The Chicago Cubs have made trade inquiries about third baseman Chone Figgins, but it will be difficult for the Angels to figure out what they might even ask for in return until they determine whether they can retain free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira or acquire a closer such as Brian Fuentes.

The Cubs and Padres are trying to engineer a four-team trade that would send San Diego ace Jake Peavy to Chicago, and the deal would probably cost the Cubs valuable utility man Mark DeRosa, who played second base, third and the outfield this past season.

Figgins, a former super utility player who has started at six different positions, would be a perfect fit for the Cubs, who could also use a good leadoff hitter.

The Angels are not actively trying to trade Figgins, who has also drawn heavy interest from the Chicago White Sox in recent years, but if they can't re-sign Teixeira, Figgins could be a valuable chip in a deal for a power bat.

The Angels have also expressed interest in Fuentes, a free agent who could command a deal in the three-year, $30-million range, but if they don't sign the left-hander, they could seek bullpen help in a deal with the Cubs.

Why the hell did you bump up a year old thread?

Oh my bad I just searched "Chone Figgins" and saw December 10th and figured this was a recent thread. 1 year anniversary of this thread I guess.

No worries. We'll keep using this thread. Lets hope it makes it's way back to page 50 or so. I have no interest in Figgins.
