I dont know much about Teahan, but his stats suggest he's just like Murton but left-handed...Can anyone fill me in?

That is pretty much what he is. Think of the move as giving Murton a chance to play.

That sounds like a pretty good description, although he may be better defensively as I think he came up as a 3B and played a few games in CF last year as well as RF.

I guess that would be Hendry's ideal dream of a left-handed Matt Murton, no?

ETA: about seven people beat me to that comparison :?

Teahan has a higher ceiling.

Not necessarily. One thing to remember is that Teahan was a Beane-supported acquisition a few years ago. So this a very un-Hendry-like move. It's almost too obvious to happen.

Looking at the stats, I would say Murton has the higher ceiling. The only reason to make this deal is that Teahan is left-handed.

was teahen hurt or something last year?

2006- 21.8 ab/hr

2007- 77.7 ab/hr

393 ab's in 06, and 544 in 07

by the way, murton's careers slashes are .296/.365/.455

teahen's are .274/.340/.429

does teahen play good defense in the outfield?

i guess you could always make the case that if two players put up similar numbers and only one of them plays in the hard league, that's the one you want.

Not that'll happen. Teahen's very mobile for his size. He might be mobile enough to play 2B non-Jeterian to the point where his bat more than makes up for his defensive miscues, in a Jeff Kent lite sort of way.
