Jose Guillen-OF-Mariners Dec. 3 - 11:16 pm et

The Royals are moving close to agreeing to a three-year deal with Jose Guillen worth $11 million-$12 million per season.

Sure, he's a cheater and an angry malcontent, but do you know how few right-handed power hitters are available right now? If Guillen plays right field, the Royals could put Mark Teahen at first base next year, leaving Billy Butler to DH.

Nice pick-up for the Royals.

3 years, $36 million for a malcontent right fielder who has been on how many teams in how many seasons, with a career .773 OPS, who was one of the worst defensive RFs in baseball last year does not strike me as a nice pick-up.

It'll keep him out of the Cubs' outfield should they fail to land Fukudome. That's nice enough for me.

Since he wasn't lefthanded I guess we didn't have to worry. Replacement level players are going to be $10 million a year at this rate. Let's just lower the bar all the way and get it over with, I want to see someone hand out a 3 year, $28.5 million deal for Pedro Feliz. According to the above headline he would qualify as a "righthanded power hitter."

Why did we have to eat any money at all on the Jones trade if guys like Guillen are so expensive?

Drew has 4/56 left. I always thought if Boston wanted to shed salary they would send cash with Drew. Now I don't think they have to. Murton for Drew?

3 yr/36mil for Guillen especially after the steroids talk is just plain ridiculous.

Agreed. IMO, vastly overrated player. He never ammounted to anything more than a decent OF.

His troubles aren't worth the quarter in my pocket.

AP[/url]"]NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Power-hitting outfielder Jose Guillen and the Kansas City Royals reached an agreement on a $36 million, three-year contract.

The 31-year-outfielder batted .290 with 23 homers and 99 RBIs for the Seattle Mariners this year. Seattle declined its $9 million option and Guillen turned down a $5 million player option, receiving a $500,000 buyout.

KC is a bit difficult to figure out. They won't spend the money to keep Carlos Beltran, but they will throw ridiculous amounts of money at Meche and Guillen.

Different administration.

Same owner though, right?

I'm curious what kind of money Jim is going to offer Fukudome, if he's truly planning on blowing him away to eliminate the competition. 3/45?

Wow...is he really worth that type of money? I wonder if it would be better to go after Jones with that amount of money?
