I wanted Hawaii to win only because I wasn't convinced Georgia wasn't as good as advertised.

Wow, was I wrong! Eating crow behind the desk at work tomorrow...

Meph, is it true that Meyer's looking at going to a 2-QB system next year? Who is the other QB? I assume you have a stud coming in or already in the program now that you want to get ready since Tebow could leave after next year.

Yes. The other guy is Cameron Newton. He's a lot like Tim Tebow. He's actually bigger (6'5"), a bit faster (4.50) and has a stronger arm. He came into a few games this year to run some and he barreled over some guys like vintage Tebow. He's every bit as talented as Tebow, although he probably doesn't have the heart of Tebow that separates Tebow from others (who does?). Meyer wanted to do it this year, but Newton did not grasp the offense quickly enough to implement the system completely. They envision Newton as a similar power running QB to compliment their speed rushing attack with Fayson, Harvin etc. They hope to bring in Newton some more to save Tebow from taking the pounding he does - see the 27 carries he had in one game. They also have a real running back coming next year, the USC transfer Emmanuel Moody. So that'll help. They have talent behind Tebow at QB, just not fully gelling with the system. Tebow didn't have it down last year, they had the Tebow package which was completely different from the normal offense. Over the second spring with him, they opened up and he got the entire offense. Newton was on campus last spring, and will probably get it down pat. He's got Tebow skills, but he's no Tim Tebow. They are the same type of player. Newton loves pounding guys too.

I don't know if Tebow will leave early. He's more likely to succeed as a full-time FB in the NFL. He'll get killed if he pulls his shenanigans as a QB in the league. Still there's more talent in the pipeline. They did bring in three five star recruit quarterbacks last year, (depending on the site). The other two. One's their best cover corner, Joe Haden. The other's John Brantley who redshirted this year. He's a drop pack passer with an NFL arm. He's definitely the best pure passer on the team, but he's not as good of a fit as Tebow or Newton. Although he may have an NFL future in him. He's actually as fast as Tebow, but definitely isn't a run guy. They havent signed a QB this year yet and dont really need to. They havent signed much because they dont have any scholarships. no ones leaving.

florida is not very good

youre right. theyre only a top 20 team (even if they lose) and theyre going to open up next season as the number 1 team in the country

No chance.

Florida will be a top 5 team at the very least to start the 2008 season. I wouldn't be surprised if they're ranked number 1.

Top 5, sure. #1? No chance. A 4 loss team that finshes 15 or lower will NOT begin 2008 ranked #1. I'd guess they start at #3.

Who do you have ahead of them then?

WV has everyone coming back unless Slaton goes pro but they have that covered with Divine. Oh, and their coach is gone so that might throw a wrench into it.

Michigan's D gave a blue print for beating the spread offense - complicated, inconsistent, LeBeau-like blitz schemes executed by fast LBs and strong DBs. Most spread QBs aren't able to deal with that, IMO.

My top 5 next year.

Oklahoma, USC, Ohio St, Florida, Texas.

Georgia will be a preseason top 5...guarantee it.

Georgia/Texas was my debate for the final spot.

Georgia is who I forgot. I'd put them at 5 over Texas.

I think it does apply more in Football though. There isnt any in depth statistical analysis that proves this that I know of. I just think things like grit and attitude apply more in football than baseball. Especially college. Usually by the NFL you better have the physical attributes.

As for Tebow in the NFL, I actually thought linebacker or TE. However I wouldnt rule out QB.

Yeah, brainfart on my part.

I like Auburn with the moneyline, Oregon +6, the under on 68.5 for GA/HI coupled with GA -7.5 the under on 58 for WI/TN, over on 59 for TX Tech/VA, over on 49.5 for USC/UI, and Va Tech (-3.5)

I remembered this post from a couple days ago and you've nailed every one of those so far with the exception of the over on 59 for Texas Tech-Virginia which you pushed.

Betting advice, please.

a lot of people put big confidence points on texas tech and i put 2 on virginia... that choke probably torpedoed any chance of me winning the bowl pick pools that i'm in.

michigan didn't give the blueprint - i think everyone already knew the blueprint, and michigan was about the last team to get their hands on it.

michigan didnt stop the spread offense. floridas offense was fine. they contained tebow, only to see harvin trash them. florida rolled up 35, + 10 more points that they didnt score because of a missed fg and a blown call by a ref. michigans d wasnt successful.

when you blitz like crazy you leave man on the outside and bubble screens can kill you: see florida.

Since you watch them so much, Meph, how would you stop the Florida offense? Or do you think there is a way?

pull an FSU:

"twist" Harvin's knee in a dogpile

"walk" near tebows left hand

I'll admit, I've taken a liking to that strategy after two years of watching them run roughshod over Tennessee.

How about a legal, ethical way? :D
