I'm not sure how the result of this game is embarrassing. Purdue is not an elite team, and its defense (especially the secondary) has been horrible the past couple seasons. It's not like the Boilers should have been expected to win by 45. As a Purdue grad/fan, I can honestly say they probably didn't deserve to even be in a bowl game after the way they played against Michigan State and Indiana. Considering how poorly they played to end the season, I'm just happy they won this game.

 

The Boilers are typically good for 7-8 wins per season, which is a nice improvement over what they were before Tiller got there. And while I appreciate the work Tiller has done, they probably need a coaching change if they want to reach the next level.

The only reason Purdue was a bowl team this season is because there are too many bowls. It should not be surprising to anybody who remotely paid attention to their season that they would struggle defensively in that game.

Really Bowl games are mostly meaningless anyway. Purdue did trounce Central Michigan by 30 points earlier this season. Central Michigan improved as the season progressed. Purdue probably were better at the beginning of the season. Purdue wouldnt even have made a bowl game if Illinois didnt get selected to the Rose Bowl.

They also lost to Purdue 45-22 (31-0 at halftime). It was next to impossible for Purdue to take this game seriously.

Every year the Big Ten has no chance against the mighty SEC. And, every year, they win one or two of the matchups. I don't know specifically which game the Big Ten will win, but I feel comfortable that they will win one.

As for the first part, any of the 3. I dislike Michigans chances the most though. For how great the SEC was supposed to be last year the Big Ten did take 2 out of 3. Really I am not looking for some kind of who is the better conference arguement. The SEC is better this year. However its not like they are all NFL quality and the Big Ten is Mac quality.

 

As for the 2nd part, touche'. Your right. However the Big Ten most certainly has disadvantages in Bowl games. They still have managed to go 15-15 against the SEC in the last ten years in bowl games.

 

Anyway, I think what really bothers most of us non-SEC fans is the superior attitude that the SEC seems to have about FB. Like I have always said, They may be the best year in year out. However they are not that superior that the SEC championship game is some sort of quasi National Title game.

I scored free tickets to the Holiday Bowl tonight. Looks like it should be a fun game. Kinda cool. Also kind of crazy to not accept, since the seats are with some of my closest friends. I didn't ask what kind of seats they are, but I don't really care since neither team is a favorite of mine.
