So, will Cesar sneak up on Jim Edmonds to give him the ol' Aramis Ramirez Special, or will Jim ask for it himself?

Or, will Jim sneak up on Cesar first? We need to follow this closely.

Closely? I'm not sure this is something I would want to be anywhere near.

You're so closeminded.

Per rotoworld:

Contract information, Cesar Izturis is guaranteed $2.85 million under the terms of his one-year deal with the Cardinals.

In addition to his base salary, Izturis can earn $650,000 in performance bonuses: $100,000 each for 400 and 450 plate appearances, and $150,000 each for 500, 550 and 600 plate appearances.

Yeah, it will probably smell.

I wonder how Pujols feels about a rebuilding year.

This is my number one concern.

if they really are going to do the rebuilding thing, they ought to tell albert in advance and, assuming the season goes as expected, have him play like 105 games or something. he's been hurt forever.

Jack Wilson's 2007 stats:

.296 .350 .440 with 12 Hrs and 56 rbi. If he were free the Cubs should take him. If the Pirates were willing to pay some of his contract, giddyup again.

Considering Theriot's line of .266 .326 .346 with 3 HRs and 45 rbi, Wilson would be a sizeable improvement.

I'm shocked people here kind of like Jack Wilson.

He was solid last year, and solid in 04 (.308/.335/.459 with 11 HRs and 59 RBI), but other than that his career numbers are absolutely horrid. Other than 04 and 07 when he had an OPS+ of 104 and 105 respectively, he hasn't put up an OPS+ of above 77 in any of his five other seasons. He's absolutely terrible, and Ryan Theriot's 72 OPS+ last year is very comparable to the rest of Wilson's career. With that pretty awful contract, there is no need to even think about Jack Wilson, as I have no doubt Theriot could put up the same or better numbers for a fraction of the cost.

It should also be noted that I despise Ryan Theriot, and don't even think he should be anything more than the 25th man next year. That's how much I dislike the idea of Wilson at SS.

Wilson has been worth about one win less per year than Rafael Furcal over the past four years. Theriot was worth about four wins less than what Jack Wilson has averaged over the past four years. To say that Wilson is "absolutely terrible" is... well, absolutely untrue.

I think I know what's happening. Hendry knows his days are numbered as the Cubs GM, so he's trying to stick it to them by giving his best advice to the other teams in the division....Well, keep up the good work!

I would absolutely love it if St. Louis starts worrying about Albert and his desire to stay here. Come on, Albert. Say something -- anything! -- that will make people question your loyalty to the team.

According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Cardinals are not expected to offer arbitration to David Eckstein.

The deadline to do so is December 7 and the newspaper suggests that the Cardinals are interested in Miguel Tejada, Jack Wilson and Cesar Izturis as potential replacements for Eckstein. "Right now when you look at the shortstop market, there's not a lot of options," general John Mozeliak said. "If we find ourselves waiting too long, we could end up with nothing. As we go into this week, we want to make sure we're protected."

If they get Izturis, what would he do? .300 with 20 homers?

See what happens when you wrap up too much money in 3 or 4 players (Pujols, Rolen, Carpenter)??? I think they have been through as many 2nd baseman as we have since they lowballed Grudzielanek. Obviously didn't plan to offer Eckstein much either.

I don't blame you, but they won a WS one year ago. If they committ to rebuilding this year with an eye towards having money to spend in 08' then he should be a good soldier about it, IMHO. We can make fun of the Izturis deal (and we will!), but its still only a one yr deal. Not like signing Perez to a two yr deal, Jones to a three year deal, etc.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I jsut had to share this.

Last night I was talking to an old roommate of mine who is a Cardinals fan. I asked him, did you see that the Cardinals signed Cesar Izturis? He got all excited, and was like really?! I had intended to rub it in that the Cards had signed him, but instead he tells me, "He was a stud for my fantasy team in 2004."

Izturis had a decent 2004, but if he was a stud for your roommate's fantasy team, I don't want to know who all else was on his team.

I'm guessing Jose Macias and Rey Ordonez.

Cesar Izturis' 88 OPS+ that year must have had all the other fantasy owners jealous.
