It is on the Angels page as well. Does this mean Matthews can be part of a deal for Cabrera?

Could be, sure. But, I don't see the Marlins being very willing to pony up the cash he's due for the rest of his contract.

Then what is the deal with 2 CFs? Matthews to left?

I...really have no idea.

You can supply some sort of vague justification for some of the more questionable moves this summer, but this one just doesn't make any sense. Hunter supplies more power, but Matthews is more patient. Overall, Hunter's a slightly better hitter than Matthews...who isn't a very good hitter in the first place. Neither has the kind of bat that justifies starting either at a corner OF spot.

Its too bad they have Vlad in the OF. If you had Hunter, Matthews Jr., and Anderson all playing at once you'd have an overrated OF at every spot.

so what does everyone think of juan rivera?

Looking at the numbers, I'm not sure I'd mind him in RF if we lose out on Fukudome.

Have fun with this deal, Anaheim. What a wonderful waste of $16M per year.

At least we're not the team paying that.

I thought for sure it was gonna be either Texas or the White Sox. Wow...maybe Rivera is now going to be included in a deal for Cabrera? I don't know...I see that as being much, MUCH more likely than Matthews Jr. However, I don't really see the Marlins wanting either player very much, so I hope Jim Hendry jumps all over Rivera. Given age, salary, and skill, I'd much prefer Rivera over Fukudome. Trade for Rivera and Tejada and call it an offseason. We'd then have enough money to also resign Wood and give Prior a decent deal.

LF Soriano

2B DeRosa

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

SS Tejada

RF Rivera

C Soto

CF Pie

Not bad.

Soriano only out-vorp'ed him by 3 points, so we kind of are.

I've heard speculation the Vlad's days in the OF are numbered because of recent injury problems. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Guerrero who ends up at DH.

Agreed. The Soriano deal doesn't look any better to me.

I think the Soriano deal is looking better. No, it's not good, but come on. $16 million for a guy with a career .793 OPS? No one with a career OPS under .800 has ever gotten $15+ million. Ichiro's pulling down $20 million a year and he's only out-VORPed/WARPed Soriano by a little more than the same margin that Soriano did Hunter this year.

They all stuck to it to $18 million a year Vernon Wells. Wells has been below average in the field the past 3 years and though he often looks great he's quite erratic. I'm not so sure he's going to rebound to a .900+ OPS guy every year.

We must trust in the fiscal irresponsibility of other teams to make Soriano's contract look less crappy.

Player A - .271/.324/.469, 104 OPS+, 192 HR, 711 RBI (11 seasons)

Player B - .280/.329/.455, 100 OPS+, 164 HR, 623 RBI (9 seasons)

One of these guys just got a 5 year, $80M deal from the Angels, while the other was traded to Detroit for Omar Infante.

So it looks like the Angles are setting the market value this season and not the Cubs. I wonder how Kenny Williams is feeling this morning now.
