Ive never had a problem with Florida or the SEC until I read this thread every week and see the bashing of the Big Ten no matter what happens, and the ass kissing of everything Florida Gators and SEC.

i dont hate the big ten. i say things how they are...and the world today is that the big ten isnt very good and the sec is very good and the gators are one of the top ten teams despite their 3 losses and the gators offense is the number one offense in the country.

 

 

ill be the first to admit that last years florida team didnt deserve to be in the nc and wasnt the best team in the nation. it has little to do with me being an actual florida fan.

All I know is Ill put up where my mouth is if you will. Illinois has the best rushing attack that Florida will have seen all year, and Juice is starting to throw. It doesnt matter anyway, because even when Illinois beats Florida you still wont say the Illini are the better team

I don't know if Florida runs up the score or not, but those stats prove nothing. Florida plays in the SEC, and, thereby, won't get the opportunity to run up the score many times. They'll play close games and lower their margin of victory. Heck, they have three losses to lower their margin of victory. You can only run up the score when you're up big, and, generally, you're not up big against fellow SEC teams.

Yes, I know. But in the SEC they've won by six points (at Ole Miss), eight points (Kentucky), and lost by three (Auburn), four (at LSU) and 12 (Georgia). All those outcomes hurt their overall margin of victory -- it certainly doesn't make them a bad team, they're in my top-10. Their scoring margin is actually more impressive than the four teams ahead soccer10K listed. But that doesn't mean they don't run up the score. Not saying they have, but you have to look at what's happened when they've won/had a chance to run up the score.

meph, you're one of my favorite posters, and most, if not all of your posts on baseball are spot. much of this has to do with your ability with numbers and your understanding of statistics.

Who is a better back Mendenhall or Hester? Whos a better rushing QB Williams or Flynn? Seriously U of I's rushing offense is 1 of the top 3 in the country, and their offense as a whole, is getting better as the season progresses.

Hell Id say its pretty split actually. There are a lot of SEC fans on this board as well as Big Ten.

I would say that Illinois and Florida have had very similar seasons this year, the primary difference in schedule being that Florida played SEC teams while Illinois played Big 10 teams, and one top 5 Big 12 team.

 

I would argue that Illinois did beat the toughest team they played this year, and I don't mean that as a slight against Missouri. I don't think Missouri was as good then as they are right now.

 

If the matchup does occur, it should be one of the more evenly matched bowl games of the year.

you'll hear no arguments from me regarding the sec's superiority. tim tebow may be the best player to ever play college football, but it's simply not true to say that illinois is definitely a worse rushing team than lsu. illinois barely does anything but rush, other team's know exactly what is coming and can do nothing about it. ohio state, statistically the best defensive team in the country, couldn't stop the illini from holding the ball for the last 8 minutes of the game.

The Gators don't have that many scholarships to hand out. Their football team is the youngest (or second youngest) in the nation and just about every contributor is a soph or freshman. They cant have a top class this year because they're not recruiting in masses. The Gators only have 10 commits. They have more four and five star commits than the Illini. The Illini are ranked higher on Rivals bc they have 7 more 3 star recruits, the Gators simply dont have room to add 25 guys this year. Florida was #1 or #2 depending on the site for Meyers first two recruiting classes.

LSU is more efficient at running the ball, thus they have a better run offense. And by efficiency i mean by comparing their running success against the specific defenses they played against. The Illini will struggle to keep up with the Gators offensively. They'll win the clock battle but they won't win the point battle...
