I guess Scott Rolen is no longer in their plans. That's a lot of money they're wasting.

Yeah, the headline in the sports section of today's Post read "Cards willing to deal Rolen" or something like that. You don't see something like that about a Cardinals player too often. I'd say it's 75/25 that he's traded this offseason.

There can't possibly be a market for Scott Rolen. Not that I think St. Louis has even a remote chance of signing Lowell anyway.

The talk in St. Louis is that the cards are aware they will get a low prospect and have to eat some of the Salary. The reports vary from the cards taking 12-18 Million of the 36 he is owed. I know Rolen Is no longer the Scott Rolen of old, But he plays decent defense for 6-8 Million a year. I think at that price you might see some interest. Maybe Florida after they dump Miggy. Maybe either LA team.

Either LA team has prospects to hand 3b over to. Only reason they were in on ARod and are in on Miggy is because those guys are super (duper) stars. They'd be [expletive] to block them for Rolen.

Colletti is [expletive], but I can't see him being that [expletive].

seriously? they re-signed nomar (bad idea), signed luis gonzalez (bad idea), signed juan pierre (horrible idea), and are seriously considering trading kemp and loney in favor of more over the hill veterans. i could totally see him doing this.

yeah after the pierre signing, literally anything is possible with coletti

Joel Sheehan was being interviewed on XM175 and said that if Coletti had gone on a six month vacation last November 1, then the Dodgers would have won their division last year.

Yanks make offer also:

Mike Lowell-3B-Red Sox Nov. 15 - 5:56 pm et

CBS4 Boston's Dan Roche is reporting that the Yankees have offered Mike Lowell a four-year deal worth $56 million-$60 million.

Roche has supposedly confirmed this. It was a different Boston station that last night reported the Braves, Cards, Angels and Yankees had all offered deal worth $55 million-$60 million. That news seemed bogus at the time and still appears this way. However, it is possible that the Yankees are in that territory. If they're going to go that far to land Lowell, Mariano Rivera has a better case for receiving a four-year deal. The Red Sox are still offering Lowell three years. The Phillies continue to deny reports that they're going to be involved, so this may prove to be a two-team race.

where the hell is Lowell going to play on the Yankees?

First base, apparently.

who was playing first last year?

Doug Mientkiewicz, Josh Phelps and Andy Phillips

Mientkiewicz and Phillips would be the starters there again barring a signing or trade

Isnt Sean Casey available? He's a much cheaper (and better) option than Lowell for the Yankees. Great clubhouse guy too.

Yankees are probably just trying to drive the price up for Boston.

And as a firstbaseman, Casey would probably be just as well. Lowell's value comes from his ability to play a pretty good thirdbase.
