I'd be one peeved Colts fan after watching this game. They make a miraculous comeback and then miss a chipshot FG to lose the game.

Manning's 6th interception of the night.

Heheh.

Well, you don't deserve to win if you toss 5 INTs though. Chargers seemed way too eager to give this one away.

Gosh, it hasn't even been raining that hard and they were struggling with that field.

Why couldn't Peyton have brought that performance with him to Miami last February?

I think most Colts fans were expecting the loss anyway tonight, which certainly softens the blow. To have the players out they did was incredible that they were still in the game.

If they don't get some of these players back, I have no idea how they're going to field a team next week. They barely have the mininum number needed in 4 positions: wide reciever, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker. They already released Luke Lawton and kick returner because they have so many guys hurt, and I have no idea who else they can release.

Here's a breakdown of guys that weren't playing by the end of the game.

#1 receiver

#3 reciever

starting tight end

starting left tackle

starting right tackle

backup left tackle

backup right tackle

best defensive end

best defensive tackle

backup defensive tackle

both starting outside linebackers

dime safety

The frustrating thing for Colts fans has to be that if they just go ahead and kick the field goal on fourth down without trying to run a play, a kick equally as bad is good. I have no idea why they tried to go for it down 2 with under 2 minutes to go and the Charger offense being completely inept tonight. Especially since SD had no timeouts.

I'm not convinced they would have actually snapped the ball. I think they were just trying to draw San Diego offsides for the first down, and if that didn't happen I think they would have called a time-out and gone for the FG. There's absolutely no way they actually go for it on 4th down when a chip shot FG would have won it.

When does John Fox get canned? Two straight seasons he has completely ruined.
I haven't heard anything about it lately, but at one time I heard talk of Bill Cowher getting the job for next year (he lives in North Carolina now, but can't coach for anybody this year since he still had one year remaining on his Steelers' contract when he resigned). I doubt this would ever happen, but what I'd like to see happen would be for Cowher to take over as head coach with Fox staying on as defensive coordinator.

You may be right, but I would have just gone ahead and kicked it. Make it as easy as possible and don't try to get cute. The SD offense hadn't done anything, especially through the air.

I would have just kicked it too, but maybe they wanted to try to steal a first down because they were nervous about missing the kick because of the wet field conditions. Or perhaps the thinking was that they wanted to milk more time so San Diego wouldn't have any time left for another return touchdown.

Possible on both counts, but you have to have faith in your units. Do the smart thing and let the rest fall into place. You're paying Vinatieri to make these field goals and then you can squib the ball to keep it out of Sproles' hands.

I'd bet that the Colts were trying to draw them offsides so they could run the clock all the way down before kicking the field goal - a move that I think was a good idea. Dungy didn't figure that a penalty would be called and thought that, at worst, he would have to call a timeout with one second left on the play clock and then they would go ahead and kick the field goal anyway. I also wouldn't trust my kick return unit to stop Sproles but at the same time, you don't want to squib the ball and give them good field position when they would only need a field goal. If you can pick up a cheap first down by drawing the Chargers offsides, why not at least try?

If the Chargers lose this game they should be banned from the playoffs. Manning throws 5 picks and you get 2 returns for touchdowns. The Colts practically gave this game to the Chargers and they're blowing it.

espn is falling all over themselves asking what's wrong with the colts, who's to blame for last night's debacle... uhh their entire team is hurt, they were playing a game on the west coast against a talented team, their great qb had a bad game, and they were coming off a huge game and were ripe for a letdown. the colts, when healthy, are the second best team in the league. let's keep some perspective.

Pretty obvious what's wrong with the Colts.

They started Craphonso Thorpe last night, right? Ok then, end of discussion 8-)

And we didn't even talk about their OLine.

They can't keep perspective in the what have you done for me lately/make a mountain out of a molehill theme they follow.

Did Marvin play?

Posted

Marvin did not play, or at least I didn't remember seeing him. It was Wayne, Thorpe, and some guy named Moorehead (any relation to the ex Bear player, I wonder)?

It was basically Wayne + practice squad players, and I saw a couple times Wayne pulling a Moose and re-positioning guys on the field and everything. They were playing down bare bones. My understanding is their OLine was a skeleton crew as well, and I don't recall seeing Dallas Clark either.

Plus it was raining, and Addai clearly doesn't understand either that you need to wear bigger cleats or that you can't cut normally in that kind of weather. He was slipping down regularly.
