I saw these two posts on Gamefaqs, I thought they were good.

all i can say is that I have a PS3 and a wii and I rarely play the wii. My advice is to go to Ebgames.com and look at the Coming Soon list for PS3 and browse the web on sites like Metacritic and check out some of the top rated games that are already out. If they interest you, buy it, if not then pass. I love my PS3, but I am not above saying it's not for everyone. the 360 is a good console with it's own merits.

The best thing, IMHO, with the PS3 is that you don't have to buy anything but an extra controller unless you consciously make a decision to buy a cheaper version and upgrade the missing bits later.

No ethernet adaptor to play wired (Wii)

No membership to play online (360)

No controller chargers (360)

No additional adaptors for the controllers in order to play older games and even some current games (wii)

Other Pros - replaceable harddrive with any laptop harddrive..not some overpriced Sony brand crap that only works on the PS3 (360). the controllers sync with the system without any extra effort (wii). The controller has a built in battery and comes with a recharge cable (although you have to buy a 2nd cable seperate from a second controller). You will get a free controller replacement if the battery ever goes bad, and you can charge the controller via USB if you already have a USB cable for a Sony Camera or the PSP.

You can install Linux OS on it for added functionality if you are so inclined. It's also very quiet and is extremely dependable. Oh, and it allows you to take part in the fight against cancer via Folding@Home. Making a second account, and thus having a second "gamertag" is as easy as providing a new email address.

You can also download and create free themes and wallpapers.

Cons - BIG. it's huge, but it doesn't feel cheap. Online is free but the functionallity is more game dependant rather than being uniform, although your "gamertag" is used for all games uniformely. some controllers will stop responding for 3-5 seconds randomly, but not very often. I have 2 controllers, one does it about once a day, one never does it at all. You MUST put it in a ventilated space, as well...it doesn't overheat on it's own, but it DOES put out a lot of heat, so if you don't put it in a ventilated space it WILL fry out.

that's about all I can think of. GL if you buy it...it's well worth the price of admission.

All the time you hear about the fight between the 360 and the ps3. I used to think the ps3 was a useless console that would just live in the 360's shadow because of lack of games and overwhelming price! That has changed thanks to the geniouses at sony. With the new price starting at 399$ It is deffinetly the superior console. Games like mgs4, uncharted, haze and ratchet are gracefully landing on the ps3 making it the best console out there. Free blu-ray player which costs a s**t load alone in stores and free online compared to the s**ky 8.99$ for xbox live. Cell prosecor, and the smallest hard drive is 2x larger than the deffault 20g on the 360. There is no doubt, The ps3 is the future of gaming. Your probaby thinking that i'm a hardcore fanboy. I will admit that I have owned a 360 since 2005 when it was launched and enjoyed it like crazy. I loved the 360 and all its games halo 3 gears forza the list goes on. But untill I recived a ps3 40g from my great uncle larry I have changed my views. Case in point the 360 just doesn't have the hardware or novelty to keep up with the ps3 and from all my points you should see that a ps3 ould be a great console to support you for 7-9 years, when the new consoles come out. seems like awile right, the ps3 is the only thing that will keep you happy until then. Wow that was probably the best peice of writing I have ever produced. My english teacher should see that, the c+ could use an upgrade...

Sorry for the grammar errors. It's not my writing. I personally went with a PS3, but my reasoning was pretty shallow (Metal Gear?!?!). Ratchet and Clank Future, Uncharted, etc. are all starting to come out for the PS3. After a rough beginning, the PS3 is looking more and more like it's going to be a great system for years to come. I have not yet once regretted buying a PS3, I'm having a blast on it, and my reason for buying it isn't even nearing release yet. I highly, highly recommend the PS3.

If I were to buy the 40GB PS3, is there anyway to get it to play PS2 games? The only game I give a damn about is Madden, which I own for PS2 and really don't wanna have to buy for PS3.

I bought RockBand for PS3 so I kinda need to get the system now. Btw, does anyone know what the best deal is right now or in the near future? Is it pretty much just the $499 80GB with motor storm?

From what I understand, there's no plans for the 40GB PS3 to have backwards compatibility. I believe they are using that lack of backwards compatibility to reduce the cost, but that's a guess.

You could just keep your PS2 around though for your PS2 games.

Please post why you voted the way you did.

I'm likely going to be selling my Wii in the near future because I really want to play Rock Band, and the downloadable content is important to that. So I'm going to either get a PS3 or Xbox360. I know the 360 has more HD space, but PS3's online services are free, correct? I don't have HDTV, but Blu-ray may be nice in the future if/when I do get HDTV. I go back and forth on this. I'm kinda leaning toward PS3, but only 40GB?

Help.

I voted for the 360. Better games right now. The Halo franchise is Xbox exclusive. Sure, PS3's online services are free, but you get what you pay for. Xbox Live is 4 bucks a month and ALL games that have Live capability have to meet the same standards as set up by Microsoft/Xbox Live (all games have to be Xbox live certified before being released to Xbox Live).

I finally put my Wii up on Ebay. And after going through all the trouble soliciting opinions and whatnot...I think I'm gonna use the money to upgrade my computer instead. Dual core and DX10. I use my computer SOOO much more than I use my consoles...it's always been that way. It seems like the smart move for me.

i've been thinking of getting a ps3 myself. thought i would hold out for the new final fantasy.

but w/ the 40 not being backwards compatable i'm getting second thoughts.

does the 80gb play the old system games?

i found out quickly on the x360 that they only have a few games that are backward compatible. that ticked me off. other than all the baseball games out on 360 suck, i've been happy w/ it.

Well, I sold my Wii for $410 plus $30 shipping on Ebay. I spent the money already on a motherboard, processor, video card, hard drive, 2gigs of memory, and a dvd burner on newegg.com, and only went about $10 over what I made on the Wii.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.6 Ghz

2gb Ram

Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16

250gb 7200rpm SATA HDD

I'm pretty happy about my decision.

I have a 60 GB, and I have played more PS2 games than PS3 games on it so far. And all have played flawlessly. Unlike the 360, the PS3's backwards compatibility (if you get a model that has it) is universal.

Not sure where you heard that. There are hundreds of games that are backwards compatible. Having said that, once I started playing the next gen games, I never go back and play the old ones. And really, the only games I have that are BC are the Halo series.

The 360's backward compatibility sucks hard. A lot of games work, but a lot don't, and it's hard to know which beforehand.

The PS3's backwards compatibility (on the models that have it) is universal.

Not quite.

The numbers I've seen is that around 80% of PS2 games are playable on a 60gb and about 70% are playable on an 80gb. The good thing is that, while they are going to patch in updates that make more games playable on the 80gb version, the 60gb version is set in stone as far as which games are playable. So, in the near future, you could see every PS2 game playable on 80gb systems.

Wait, you can play some Xbox games on Xbox 360? I had no idea. Does that include GTA San Andreas? I suppose I could just stick it in and see what happens (that's what she said), but I don't want to mess anything up.

Hmm. I have the original 60gb PS3 and it has played every PS2 game I own (about 40 games, I tested it out). Could just be that I have all the right games.

I have not had nearly as much luck playing XBox games on my 360.
