Is there really any hope of getting Soriano out of the leadoff spot at this point? I doubt it, but is there any hope? What about next season?

No, probably not. My guess is he'll move lower in the order in 2-3 years when he loses his speed (that doesn't mean that's a very good reason)

That was making me sick last night. The D'backs were consistently getting their leadoff hitter on, no matter who it was.

Soriano should never be batting leadoff. Ever. He's a #5 hitter. Put him there. It's ridiculous that he gets to decide where he wants to bat. Who runs this team?

My lineup:

DeRo 2b

Murton RF

Lee 1b

Aram 3b

Soriano LF

Soto C

Jones CF

Cedeno SS

Pitcher

I'm still talking about this season and Saturday's game. I haven't given up hope that the Cubs can at least make it to game 5. Of course they'll get killed if they make it to game 5, but I still think they can get there.

As for next year, I'd love to see the Cubs either bring in a good hitting SS or a power-hitting RF. I'd let Pie take over in CF and send Jacque packing. I'm just hoping our biggest problems (Hendry, Trib) are gone before next season starts. I want to start seeing players who work counts and have the ability to take walks. I'm so tired of watching our "5-tool" players hacking at everything in the stadium.

I would agree

i think it would take Soriano requesting to move out of the lead-off spot. which, obviously, isn't happening.

It would take Jose Reyes and then Soriano would just move to #2.

I actually don't mind Soriano at leadoff.......IF

-the Cubs get a legit #5 hitter

-the Cubs get a legit #6 hitter (Soto could be decent here)

-the Cubs use Derosa (a legit #2 hitter) in the 2nd spot

Really it's all about the 5 hitter. 6 could very easily be handled by Murton and/or Soto.

Why does a new thread about this get started at least once a week? He's not moving out of the leadoff spot anytime soon. Deal with it. I don't understand why people constantly bring it up like it's something that could change soon.

Aren't his numbers God-awful with people on base?

See, I'd bat Soriano between Lee and Ramirez. How many people would risk walking him with ARAM on deck? He would see a ton of fastballs with men on base.

Murton

Lee

Soriano

Ramirez

DeRosa

Jones

Soto

Theriot

When Pie starts, just put him #1 instead of Murton OR you could put Riot #1, Soto #8 and Pie #7 so Pie can swing away and Soto (and his better OBP) can bat in front of the pitcher.
