I was listening to Boers and Bernstein today and they commented on Sullivan's blog.

They ridiculed Santo for drinking when he is a national spokesman for diabetes while breaking some of the disease's foundational health rules. I guess this goes against doctor's orders and can lead to nerve damage. What do you think of this?

"On Friday night he was walking around the Cubs clubhouse in a daze, soaked with champagne poured over his head by Kerry Wood and other Cubs and wearing an ear-to-ear smile"

I don't think that implys that Ronnie was drinking. Just because he was doused in champagne doesn't mean that he was purposely drinking any. Boers and Bernstein can eat a bag. I hope karma gets them both and makes them paralyzed with every disease imaginable. I hate those dbags.

Ronny did have a beer in his hands on Friday night....But for an occasion so rare as this, I don't blame him one bit!

Nowhere did it say that he was absolutely plastered or anything of the sort. Yes, he needs to be careful with his health, but let the man live a little!

I usually enjoy Boers and Bernstein....but I think in this case, they're completely wrong! Besides, what Ron Santo does on his own time is none of their damn business.

C'mon apete6, don't hold back.

If Santo wants to have a drink in public to celebrate a rare achievement, let him. B&B should be reprimanded for producing horrible radio while they're on the air. I find that more offensive.

The blog says he was drinking with other members of the WGN staff. Remember that they didn't criticize him for drinking, but being a spokesman for diabetes who has had health problems and still drinks.

I think those people needs to get a grip and move on. Santo can do whatever the heck he pleases to do with his life. I don't see anywhere where it says "Santo caught drinking, drunk on scene."

Again, that has nothing to do with the point I am making

Ya know what- I'm sorry but when you have been through everything Ronny has, I certainly believe it is acceptable to have a drink once in a while. People need to lay off the unnecessary criticism.

And that's fine. I'm just saying what Ty Cobb probably would said it best. "I actually don't give a (expletive)". You know how it goes, I'd reckon.

Long live the power of choice. Drink, chain smoke, don't exercise and eat trans fats away Ronnie!

By the way, Santo does drink a lot FWIW.

Santo doesn't advocate drinking, and whenever he's mentioned (that I've heard) personal consumption of alcohol, he's clearly been self-conscious enough to note that the drinking was well in the past or extremely limited. "I had one glass of wine when I was waiting for the Hall of Fame call, Pat. That's all it takes these days." These mentions of Santo drinking are from outside sources. It's not like he's profiting by appearing in commercials for Anheiser-Busch products.

Are B&B now experts on Santo's medical condition and his physician's recommendations? The ADA doesn't rule out an occasional drink for diabetics who follow proper precautions.

I think Santo's a responsible spokesperson whose visible presence on the juvenile diabetes issue has raised millions for the cause (one might note that, regardless of diabetic status, juveniles shouldn't be drinking alcohol). If he starts peddling beer a la Harry Caray, perhaps I'll reconsider that position. Obviousy, B&B's mileage differs.

Jesus, let the man be happy and enjoy himself for all he's been through..If he wants to drink, let the man freakin drink..

For all of the trials and tribulations he's been through in his life, he deserves anything that lets him enjoy life. Of course, his biggest trial and tribulation has been being associated with the Cubs for so long.

I guess you have to give Ronny the benefit of the doubt. He is WELL aware of the dangers of diabetes, so I'll assume whatever he did he knew full well what he was doing.

They weren't ridiculing him. They were blasting.

And, in this case, to be honest, I think they're right. I'm going to take a lot of crap for saying it, but their point was entirely valid. Completely. Because this supposedly isn't' just a one time thing, either. If it were just him celebrating the win and having a beer, fine.

Sure, the only harm he inflicts is on himself, but isn't it extremely hypocritical?
