Are you kidding? Webb was on last night. We played right into his game plan. Other then his bouts of wildness, he got ahead of hitters with a sinker that looks hittable. He got ahead of hitters 0-1 and 0-2 so many times, and when you are in that position you are pretty much done for with Webb.

Agreed three times over!! wish we had a guy like that instead of Traschel and Marquis

I did find it a bit funny that Z hit Webb harder than just about anyone else.

First pitch swinging. Like many others have said (and said last night in the game thread), Webb's first pitch often was the highest pitch of the entire AB, starting above the letters and 'sinking' right over the heart of the plate. If there was anything resembling a meatball from Webb in a given at-bat, it was going to be the first pitch or not at all.

Webb was very fortunate last night in that he was hit hard, but they kept hitting the ball right at the defenders.

according to Rosenbloom, thats what advanced scouting does. somehow Webb was throwing pitches he could predict the outome of

Tip your hat to Webb, but we plenty the ball hard last night...the problem was that it was it was always at a DBack. A-Ram hit two on the track and we have a few line drives to the outfield. I expect us to bounce back tonight.

Webb was dealing last night and luck was on his side. You can't beat a pitcher that has both going for him. The Cubs could have easily had 9 or 10 hits instead of 4, as they hammered the ball many times right into a defender's glove.

That Floyd line drive to RF was one of the hardest hit balls I have ever seen. It stayed about 10 feet off the ground with almost no arc for 250 feet, but RF barely had to move.

The Cubs did hit the ball hard a few times, but I don't see how you could consider ground balls by Soto and Jones to be tough breaks. They're groundballs. Webb's a GB pitcher, that's what he does. If you make those hits, well, you might as well take away Lee and Theriot's hits because they weren't hit that well and found the right spots.

Ramirez hit the ball well, but if a RH hitter hits it in the air to the opposite field in AZ, he better really get a hold of it. Ramirez didn't. Webb pitched to his park. There was not a hardhit ball other than Floyd's that when it was hit I thought it would drop.

I'll go combo of both. I knew we'd struggle a bit against Webb but I hoped we would get into the BP and scratch out a couple there.

We gave up 3 runs in 9 innings last night, I know the Marmol home run hurts believe me I let out a blood curdling scream -- but 3 in 9 isn't a collapse of pitching, especially when I'm watching the Cubs not get runners in scoring position home in many of our chances.

Combo of both. Webb was fairly good, pitched to his situation -- and we didn't put the good ABs together when we needed to.

I don't understand how you can say Lee's ball wasn't hit well. That ball was through the infield pretty quickly. Theriot's was definitely a cheap hit, the only ball the Cubs didn't hit well that fell in all night.

I agree with the Ramirez fly ball comments. I think people are more talking about the line drives. Z's line drive, Floyd's two line drives, Soriano's liner. The Cubs had at least 6 line drives last night, and only 2 of them dropped down for hits. That isn't very good luck, even if you take out the Ramirez fly balls, the Soto ground ball, and the Jones grounder.

Lee's was hit solidly, but still it was a GB. If a ball is pulled on the ground, you have to assume it's gonna be fielded more times than not, which was my point, but I understand I didn't make that clear.

Soriano's liner was to straight away CF. Floyd hit 2 to straight away RF. That's where the fielders are normally positioned. Z's I thought was gonna be out, because I thought it was hit lower, but that definitely could have easily been a hit.

I just don't think it was as much luck as people are tyring to say it is.

maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't Lee's hit a line drive?

Webb pitched a solid game and you have to tip your cap to him and the bullpen for outpitching the Cubs.

I actually thought the Cubs were going to lose last night. Hopefully, the wakeup call has been placed and the team responds. Tonight's game is by far the biggest game of the season.

I'm not worried in the least about tonight's game. Of course, if Davis pitches out of his mind, then the sweat will be pouring out.

Just goes to show once again.. good pitching always beats good hitting and that post-season baseball is ALL about pitching and defense.
