Before the playoffs start I'm curious. Since we know the Cubs are in the playoffs would you trade this for not signing Sori and being able to sign ARod instead for 2008? I'm not saying Hendry has a choice in the matter I'm just wondering how you all would do this.

A playoff appearance in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Until it ends.

Unless it ends with a World Series. Then it's worth something for quite a while.

How much are we signing ARod for?

Whats the point of having players like A-Rod and Soriano if your not going to make the playoffs? The question doesnt make much sense.

What hes saying is that would you rather have Sori for the life of his contract and get to the playoffs in 2007 (ie would you like reality), or would you rather not have signed Sori, miss the playoffs, and sign ARod in 2008.

Basically the question is, do you think ARod could get us into the playoffs 2 or more years over the life of his contract, than Sori (since we got into the playoffs this year). Thats a good question. If we assume ARod will sign for 30M, thats 13M more than Sori. Or, the difference of Tejada, or the difference of Renteria and 7M. If money is a finite resource, I'd have to take either of the latter two scenarios, rather than get ARod. Again, it all depends on how much ARod will get. Now if we are going to go back in time and not sign Sori (17M), Marquis (7M), and Jones (5M), then I'll chose ARod.

Miss the playoffs and get ARod. I think he would singlehandedly expand our playoff window a few years.

I wanted to trade for ARod in the offseason and retool in 2007. I said it at the end of the offseason and still believe that Hendry built a team designed to win in 2007-2008, and then will be financially crippled for several years afterward. Basically it's a team designed to get Hendry his retirement nest egg (contract extension). Despite the playoff appearance I still think the Cubs are lousy for a $100M team that mortaged its future to win now. In any other division they'd be a .500 team at best, which is unfortunate, since the core of the team is composed of players who are at their career peaks, i.e. players who can only go downhill in the future. This is not how I would have built the Cubs. I like a team that's built to last. To get that sometimes you need a rebuilding season, unless you have the Yankees' payroll.

Crazy thought. Is it possible the Cubs could dump Soriano on the Yanks if the Yanks lose ARod?

Interesting thought. Depends on if they are going to pick up Abreu's option or not. They'll be concerned mostly about 3B though.

We aren't going to sign AROD unless the new owner wants to make a spalsh. I wouldn't mind Dunn next year. Not quite the splash of AROD, but a solid ripple.

Arod.

I don't believe Sorianos production was worth his contract .Hes not gonna get too much better either. It sounds like hes getting the credit for the team reaching the playoffs. You have to wonder who would have taken his place.Theriot would be in the leadoff spot and they would have added another outfielder.
