Yes, you can expect to lose a game before it occurs, but can anyone really say they felt it would be ok to lose because we're "supposed to" when seeing Z dealing and we tie it up vs Webb finally??

I sure as heck wasn't.

We had chances to win tonight, and didn't. Not saying we won't win tomorrow and sweep this weekend to win 3-1 still, but we let a HUGE opportunity go by the boards tonight. Just hope it doesn't come back to bite us.

I love all the people blaming Lou. We scored 1 freaking run. Pretty tough to win games when you only score 1 run.

QFT. We're not gonna win many games when 1-2-3 go 1-12.

Wow, this board is more pathetic than normal with the doom and gloom. The reality is we went up against a Cy Young caliber pitcher tonight and we weren't able to take advantage of our limited scoring chances. We hit some balls awfully hard; they just didn't fall in. The D-Backs didn't exactly scare me offensively. I expect Lilly to pitch a strong outing tomorrow and the Cubs to come back with a big W...

Let's GO CUBS!

The positivity.... Cannot take it...

Offense doesn't get a pass but Lou is supposed to put the team in the best position to win and I don't believe he did. I blame the offense and Marmol too.

Can you really blame the offense for getting shut down by Brandon Webb?

Well, I'm not surprised but yes, they could have done better.

Being OK with it and being able to not freak out and ultimately accept it are two different things.

Well, that was teh suck.

But to tell you the truth, it was a game I kind of expected the Cubs to lose, but it was a game we could have easily had. The Cubs actually hit the ball hard a lot, but right at people. But, that's baseball.

IMO, taking Z out was a bad move, but not a horrible one. I would have let him go one more in a tight game, but can't totally fault Lou for pulling him.

However, I would have preferred Marmol work out his butterflies with some margin for error. I probably would have gone to Howry first.

I really believe the Cubs take the next three games.

Yea. A little luck, and they would've. Lots of hard hit balls today. More than I expected, honestly.

They weren't really being patient, but I suppose that's the book on Webb. You have to get him while he's trying to get ahead early. That's what UK's take on it was, at least.

Yeah, I'll agree with all of that.

Well said. I hope you're right.

As stated earlier, Lilly is 9-1 following a Cubs loss this year.

If Hill gets any sort of offensive support, we can take G3.

Would set up another Webb vs Z, in Wrigley on Sunday.

Gotta look at things positively... but man its hard after not taking advantage of the opportunities we had to win tonight.

It's not like Webb had his best stuff. We were getting some pretty bad luck. He wasn't getting groundballs, but we just didn't catch any breaks... go get em tomorrow.

I was gonna be all angry and upset, but you know what... we're in the playoffs, lets enjoy the ride. This team has come up big when it matters every single time they need too.

Yeah, the Cubs really roped quite a few balls tonight. It was the Devil's luck for the DBacks, but you can't complain. That's how it goes.

Lou did essentially admit in the post game interview that having Z go in game 4 was a factor given how well the pen had performed lately. I don't pin this one on him. The part that pisses me off was how many hard hit balls didn't find holes (no double entendre intended) today. Maybe that's not assigning appropriate blame, but that's why I'm not as pissed about the decisions in this game. I think Lou thought the offense would eventually get some of those hits to fall.

Another positive stat - the last 2 times a Chicago team lost a playoff game 1, it won at least the next three in a row. The last time, the Chicago team won its next 8 in a row.

What made you think this?

His command was iffy, and there were quite a few stung balls off of him.

When Webb has his A game, the other team just pounds the ball into the ground all game. That wasn't the case tonight.

He was good, but he wasn't totally on top of it.

I'd like to think that's where we are trending.

I don't buy "hit the ball hard" as an excuse. "Hit the ball hard" etc. WHO CARES? If the batters fail to hit it where the defenders aren't, then they aren't fully doing their jobs.

Are you serious? When you scorch a ball that would be a sure double 5 feet to the right or left and its caught, you hold that against the hitter?

Its not like they have targetting lasers or something. IMO, the job of the hitter is to hit the ball as hard as he can, he can't do anything else.
