this A-Ram jersey i'm wearing is making me sweat. it's way hotter than the 72 degrees they predicted for today

I'm freezing in my room. Of course I just realized I still have th AC on so I turned it off and opened the window. (however, hooray for free air and heat)

well "free" is rolled into the cost of your room and board

Quick question for NSBB vets: was this board around in 2003 or is this the first playoff game thread?

I'm surprised there isn't more pages.

I think I read, in an article that Silver linked to in his series preview article (from Washington Post, maybe?), that no team has outperformed their pythag to the extent that the D'Backs did since the early 1900's.

Here ya go:

Washington Post[/url]"]Thing is, Pythagoras is almost never wrong. Before this year, there were only three teams to make the playoffs while being outscored by their opponents -- the 1987 Minnesota Twins, 1997 San Francisco Giants and 2005 Padres. And according to Retrosheet.org, only the 1905 Detroit Tigers outperformed their Pythagorean winning percentage by a greater margin than the Diamondbacks have this year.

3 of those teams were swept in the first round of the playoffs. The only team that wasn't was the '87 Twins. They won the World Series

Those Karros v Choi and Estes v Cruz debates were fun. :D

By the way, do you or anyone know the record for the longest game thread in NSBB history? This, or another this postseason, may surpass it.

Don't know what the record is but some of the game threads in 2004 were around 100 non-Premium pages so the recent ones this season might have topped them.

MLB has to be thrilled with the markets/teams in the playoffs. While it's not perfect in their minds, it's close (a perfect world would likely also include the Mets, Dodgers and Giants*). Among the eight teams you have the No. 1 TV market (New York), No. 2 (Los Angeles), No. 3 (Chicago), No. 4 (Philadelphia), No. 7 (Boston), No. 12 (Phoenix), No. 17 (Cleveland) and No. 18 (Denver). So, you have the top four markets (even if the Dodgers are the top team in the No. 2 market) and five of the top seven. Plus, the Yankees, Cubs and Red Sox may be the three most popular teams.

*Obviously, not all three of those mentioned could make it in addition to the Cubs and Phillies.

I'd have to imagine each of these game threads will be longer than whatever has the record now.

I actually went back and looked at this recently, and the last two Marlins game threads from last week rank 2nd and 3rd among threads that haven't been archived and removed. The only thread longer than those two was the Pie debut game when he doubled and threw out a runner going for third.

I have no doubt that these playoff games will beat those. Though I know that the only game thread I'll post in during the actual game in the NLDS is if it makes it to game 5.

Hmmm, seems like there should be an official NSBB record book or something. Maybe something integrated into the Hall of Fame posts idea?

I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if you and Tomy are right about these late season threads and now the postseason ones being the longest ever.

There's no where Bowen got over 100 AB as a Cub is there?

So apparently we're getting Dick Stockton and Ron Darling calling our games on TBS, while Bob is in a three-man booth with Chip and Tony Gwynn (they're doing the Yankees/Indians series and then the NLCS). Edited by Fro

I would prefer Chip, Bob and Tony Gwynn. I don't really strongly dislike Stockton or Darling though.
