    • It won't; these are still the Cobs, and somehow they'll find a way to choke it away

A division title now seems all but inevitable for the Cubs, so I think it's fun to speculate when. Wednesday is the earliest they could theoretically clinch the title outright (they could clinch a tie Tuesday).

I voted Thursday. Originally I was thinking Friday, but the Brewers choked things so badly against Atlanta that I don't think they can hold on that long. If the Cubs win 2 of 3 in Florida the Brewers would have to win 3 of 4 from the Cardinals to avoid elimination, and right now they don't seem to me to be capable of winning 3 of 4 from anybody. I also want Thursday to be the day since that's a WGN telecast, so I'll be able to watch the Cubs' telecast along with the locker room coverage rather than watching the other team's telecast on Extra Innings. I want to hear Len and Bob call the magic moment.

IMB is right. We must remember, this is the Cubs we're talking about.
Hence the reason I included the last option. That should ward off any evil spirits that could jinx this. :D

Yeah, that's a good point. It would suck to have to listen to the Florida announcers call it. I'd probably switch to Gameday Audio for the 9th just for that reason.

Lets see.

Monday-Brewers win, Cubs idle. MN 4

Tuesday-Brewers win, Cubs win. MN 3

Wednesday-Brewers win, Cubs win. MN 2

Thursday-Brewers Loose, Cubs Loose. MN1.

Firday-Brewers Loose. Cubs should be facing Harang, but if the Brewers loose, who cares. Cubs Clinch!

Im going to say Friday, Maybe Thursday.

Glad to see that the Brewers are loose on Thursday and Friday and that the Cubs are loose on Thursday - which begs two questions...

1. Why aren't the Brewers and Cubs loose the other days?

2. How does being loose make the Cubs' magic number go down?

Even if the Cubs lose, loose, whatever, as long as the Brewers lose as well, the MN goes down.

I realize the magic number goes down for every Cubs win or Brewers loss; I was just giving you a hard time.

this is such a huge example of pushing our luck

that's why i voted for the last option

Me too. I thought I was going to be the only one to vote for it.

I'm no longer going to participate in this thread.

You don't want to talk about things being loose? (Yes I'm leading this in a whole different direction. :D)

I really would prefer the Cubs clinch by winning a game as opposed to Brewers losing a game, for the same reason I'd switch to GA to listen to Pat/Ron - I want Cubs announcers to call it.

That said, I ain't gonna be too picky.

I've tempted fate and booked a non-refundable plane ticket to Chicago for the LDS games.

I'm waiting until they clinch. When are you arriving/leaving?

you're taking a vacation to chicago, and if the cubs happen to be playing you'll probably catch a game or two

My flight arrives on Friday around 2 and I'm leaving Monday morning around 9, which means I'll have to be at the airport pretty early then.
