Lou pulled Monroe fairly early in the game today. Did he give an explanation during his press conference? Could that be the last we will see of Monroe?

Lou said Monroe was fine, but that he just wanted to get a defender in there who's dealt with the Wrigley winds because it can be hard on guys who haven't experienced it before.

Yep. Pretty much Lou's nice way of saying Monroe sucks and that we might as well get some decent defense from CF today.

He didn't look good at all in center from what I've seen. If he's not playing center then I would guess he's not going to be starting anywhere for the rest of the year. Used as a pinch hitter is fine by me...assuming it's a lefty. Nice trade Jim.

We didn't really give up anything for him though. He took a chance, and it didn't work out. Big deal.

You guys think he'll be on the playoff roster?

LOL. That was my first thought when reading the title of this thread.

I sure hope not. We need Pie on the roster for his late inning defense, so if it comes down to Monroe vs. Murton for our right handed outfielder the choice better be Murton.

My assumption was Monroe would be our starting CF vs. lefties the rest of the way. I still kinda think it wouldn't be an awful idea, but Monroe's presence on a potential playoff roster would have nothing to do with Murton and Pie.

Kendall, Lee, DeRosa, Theriot, Ramirez, Soriano, Jones, Floyd, Murton, Soto, Fontenot, Pie, and Ward would all be locks for position players.

Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marquis, Wood, Eyre, Marmol, Howry, and Dempster would be locks for pitchers.

That's 23 players.

I'm 98% sure Wuertz would make a playoff roster.

That leaves Monroe vs. a 12th pitcher(Hart/Ohman) vs. Cedeno.

I'd say Monroe has a better than 50% chance of making it, Hart/Ohman about 30%, Cedeno a real long shot.

There's no need for a 12th pitcher, but I figured Cedeno would be more useful as a backup middle infielder... I guess it could go either way

maybe I'm counting wrong, but that would leave a spot for an 11th pitcher

Yep - he listed 22 (not 23) locks. If playoffs were tomorrow it would probably be Monroe and Hart. However, it might depend on who the Cubs match up with because that would leave only one LH reliever.

My mistake.

Yeah, I'd guess it's between Hart and Ohman then.

It'll be Hart, esp if Marshall won't be on there.

I would rather that the Cubs took Blanco on the playoff roster and left Monroe off. If he is just going to be a pinch hitter, I would rather have Kendall or Soto pinch hit. Which you cant do unless there is another Catcher.

Kendall or Soto would pinch-hit anyway. Lou likes to use a lot of his players, and after the 6th inning or so isn't worried as much about injuries. Remember all those times earlier in the year when Lou ran out of players? He has pinch-hit with the backup catcher a decent amount this year.

Of course, I think you'll see Monroe back in the starting lineup today, but I wouldn't be shocked if Lou pulled him again as soon as the Pirates go to their bullpen.
