well our inept coach keeps dressing jimmy vandermeer, so that he can go out and be on the ice for as many goals against as possible. he got outmuscled for one of the goals by peter prucha, who isn't exactly a bull on the ice. vandermeer is a -1 now with the flyers, during which time the team has been well over .500. Kukkonen is a +5 and was with hatcher as the team's best shot blockers.

stevens' affection for canadian players, and guys who were with him on the phantoms, is pretty ridiculous.

we have to have the dumbest enforcer in the league. riley cote makes a habit of going out on the ice while the flyers have the lead and the momentum, and then getting the piss beat out of him by someone who's actually a good fighter. at least if you're gonna get beat up, do it while the other team has the momentum... that way you don't totally bone us over for the next few minutes.

I am watching Detroit/Boston on Yahoo. I dont know who these Boston announcers are. They are not homers though. Its almost refreshing watching a non-national broadcast with announcers who are level headed.

i'll switch over and see, but i'm guessing it's jack edwards and andy brickley. edwards is an excellent announcer; he was with espn for a long time and did a lot of their hockey games in the late 90s and early 00s. he's had a lot of practice doing unbiased announcing (since that's what national announcers are supposed to be, joe buck) and that probably reflects in the work he does with the b's. andy brickley probably has more homer tendencies in than edwards, but brickley is a good announcer in his own right.

but assuming it is those two (it usually is), you're right about them being very good. they're probably the best duo of announcers in the league.

Mitchell is out, so is Krajicek. Miller and Salo are doubtful for tomorrow, and Ohlund is back in Vancouver for personal reasons. 5 of the top 6 might be out for tomorrow's game. They might have to play a forward(or two) on D tomorrow.

Edler-Bourdon

Weaver-Mciver

?-?

And now I've just read that they've called up some guy named Zach Fitzgerald. Who? Tomorrow is not going to be pretty.

Man, being on win cruise control is just plan strange. I've never had a professional team that I liked win like this and the only one that even comes close is the Vikings from the 70's. Thank you Detroit.

trade deadline is coming up in three weeks. we could use a puck-moving defenseman, but the flyers don't seem at all interested in trading from the excellent young base that they've built over the past few years. i wouldn't be opposed to trading a young forward because we've got a wealth of potential 2nd/3rd line options, but i wouldn't do it without getting some young talent back. in reality, if the flyers make a big move in the next three weeks, it will probably be signing peter forsberg.

carnage in the phlyers-rangers game

have to respect Downie for fighting with a visor.

ugh. in case you've missed it, guys have suffered serious eye injuries from being hit in the face with a puck. i don't fault any player for wearing a visor. it's hard to take your helmet off to fight when you're jumped from behind by someone. if they want to make it even, the player should take off his helmet and the other non-visored player should also take his off. because otherwise you have one player taking blows all over his non-helmeted head, while the other guy leans forward and puts his head down so that the other fighter is raining punches on the hard plastic on top of his head. it's not a fair fight that way either.

anyway, downie beating up tyutin and richards beating up dubinsky were the only redeeming things about yesterday's game. jim vandermeer was a disgrace yet again.

no i've got no problem with him wearing a visor but it's a punk move to keep it on whilst fighting. the replays didn't really show how the fight was started but i have a hard time believing Tyutin jumped him from behind. that guy is much too docile.

nevertheless, if the Rangers meet Philly in the playoffs they should probably just start Valiquette all series long.

Richard Zednik had his throat slashed by Olli Jokinen's skate. He's apparently okay.

on a lighter note Dan Cloutier won an NHL game. on a sad note the world is ending tomorrow :(

he did. it was a scrum and while tyutin didn't initiate a fight with downie, he did pull downie off somewhat of a pile. if it makes you feel better, downie fought today and ruutu pulled downie's helmet at the onset of the fight today. for some reason he didn't see fit to pull off his own helmet to even things up. what a punk.

anyway, i was at that game. the seats my parents got me were amazing, 2nd row from the ice, just outside the blue line. saw five of the seven goals down our end and got into it with the pens' mascot during the 2nd period intermission. the only real negatives were the final score and the huge number of obese, unsightly pens fans. but i guess when you go to pittsburgh, that is to be expected.

yeah, i couldn't watch that highlight. the one from the goalie in the 80's nearly gave me nightmares. i'm glad ESPN warned me so i could look away

Huge win for the Canucks today. After the Hawks scored late, I thought for sure that it was over.

Oh and Khabibulin is a punk.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. That's the Blackhawks for you.

You're welcome.

Evgeni Malkin- great player or greatest player?

as good as crosby, maybe better. people are sorta starting to figure this out since crosby has been out and malkin has pretty much put the team's scoring on his shoulders.

Finally get to watch a Wings game today and the ending was very frustrating

I hope they match up well with their first round opponent this year. I'd like to see them get into a nice groove during that first round and keep it going throughout the playoffs.

I really wonder what Pittsburgh will do for the next few years. Putting Malkin on Crosby's wing makes him a less effective (still great nonetheless) player but putting him on the 2nd line is going to limit the ice time for both great players and then you have Jordan Staal and in a year or two when he fully breaks out they're really not going to have enough ice time to go around, some of these guys' talent will be squandered when they can't get on the ice enough.

You have to wonder if Staal gets dealt for a winger.

Jaromir Jagr did just fine as Mario's wingman
