Random brewerfan.net rant of the night:

I am so freaking tired of the Cubs's luck especially this last week or so. Every bounce, and every little thing is going their way. On that triple by Ramirez, Hopper makes a diving attempt that he almost caught. he would've caught that against the Brewers. It's just so depressing. The Brewers do everything they have to do, and it looks like they are going to pull even with the Cubs who are 3 outs away from defeat and what happens?? Ughhhhh I hate to say it but it just doesn't seem to me that destiny is smiling on the Brewers and I'm afraid they are going to come up just a bit short. What really sucks about it is the Cubs have NO BUSINESS, absolutely NONE being in 1st place. They are NOT as talented as the Brewers. It may sound like sour grapes, but it's really not when I say I have watched and listened to a number of Cubs games this year and they have had so much luck go their way. So many fluky things have happened that have allowed them to win some games this year.

LOL, he doesn't watch many Cubs games does he.

Well the post is pretty silly, its just a rant but balls have been bouncing the Cubs way left and right since about late May now. The wild pitching in philly, the flurry of 2 out RBI hits in July, all the errors and bad defense other teams played in August, games like tonight where a couple misplayed balls hand the game to you.

Someone upstairs is on the Cubs side.

Granted in April/May the opposite happened, the Cubs couldn't buy a break and Yost even said he thought more things bounced our way in that one month than all of last year.

you know, like tonight where a check swing and a bloop hit gave the other team two runs. or when Aram's ball that everyone in the world thought would go 430 feet and Hopper made an incredible catch.

someone upstairs on the Cubs side. puh-leaz.

or when oswalt's wife is being induced the day after he is scheduled to pitch against the brewers.

Mackanin on press conference:

Sarcastically says he;s happy for the fans, a pretty funny moment. Said he's not very happy.

Said he didn't walk the bases loaded to give the pitcher some leeway with his pitches. Doesn't want to load the bases if he doesn't have to.

Thinks the umpires are wrong. Manager must go directly to umpire and not cross line. Umpire said he could do that but Mackanin told him he thought he was wrong. Said Lou was wasting time to get his pitcher some time to warm up. Thought the umpires disregarded the rule.

Why can't they pop a cork in her!? Get his ass to the game!

That was a pretty blunt question about Soriano needing to play smarter baseball. Lou tip toed around it, but Im surprised they asked it

Did you also notice how he referred to Theriot as "our leadoff hitter." Technically he led off the inning, but I interpreted Lou's statment as Theriot being the team's leadoff guy.

I wouldnt look to far into that. Soriano will be leading off

I agree Soriano will still bat leadoff, but I read that Piniella still considers Theriot as more of his leadoff man even though he doesn't bat in that spot in the order.

He really shouldn't bat 1st or 2nd, tonight's last AB aside.

Someone upstairs is on the Cubs side? You mean like in 2003 when up until Game 6, God was happily watching over wars and famine and starving children. Then an angel frantically burst into his office:

"Sir, I have some important news!!"

"Bah, what is it, Gabriel? Can't you see I'm busy?"

"But Sir, the Chicago Cubs are five outs away from winning the pennant!"

"WHAT??? I'm glad you told me! I'll get right on that!"

So...yeah.

please tell me Bud I used to own the Brewers Selig won't overturn this game.

That would be so very Cub-like, wouldn't it?

I don't think I could handle that.

Are you kidding me? Cubs in the playoffs are instant ratings.

this goes for the Brewers entire season basically. they've had an uncanny knack of missing aces.

If, and its a big IF this is upheld, game would be picked up again in the 6th inning.

Not even a possibility. Not even Bud Selig is going to overturn a game in a pennant race based on a nitpicky technicality.

My guess is the people in the MLB offices will wait to see how the season plays out before even hearing the protest. They would rather avoid the controversy.

No way, there has to be word tomorrow.

They won't let this thing play out and then make a decision that could affect the playoffs at the end of the year.

Guys relax. I've been watching baseball forever and I've never ever seen a protest overturned. Lou didn't do anything wrong and it didn't effect the outcome of the game. It's silly to even talk about....

the rule would make no bloody sense if that's the way it worked. what if a manager wants to talk to his pitcher to get an idea of how he's feeling, his confidence level, etc. before making the change?

Not sure, but he's referring specifically to a double switch, not just a regular pitching change.

the outcry if they over turned this game would be waayyyyyy worse than what mlb would want to deal with. its going to be just riots if they overturn it.

Let's just be happy Soto didn't win it with a HR or something.

haha.

that's what I have alluded to a couple of times. "appeal" is a two step process. first, they see if the umpires misinterpreted a rule. if they did, they look to see if that misinterpretation had an impact on the game.

here, there is no way they could claim that the misinterpretation had an outcome because neither Soto or the ninth place hitters reached base.
