Wow. Illinois looked...good. On both sides of the ball. Won a Big Ten opener for the first time in 14 years (in 2001, the dropped the opener and then ran the table).

They actually have a decent shot at a bowl. Need to win 3 more among games against Ball State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Iowa, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.

My brother told me that a win against a D1AA team doesn't count towards the necessary amount of wins (6) that you need to qualify for a bowl.

I don't believe him, but is he right?

It used to not count, but now you can have 1 win over a I-AA count towards your win total.

We're not going to escape this game alive (literally). Ohio State is going after their heads and they've already knocked out two players. One was just a horribly vicious blind-side helmet-to-helmet special teams block.

If Illinois has a decent team, this weekend will screw recruiting for several years.

Hey, it'd be nice if SOME Illinois school could keep some talent in state, rather than let it get poached by ND, Michigan and OSU.

God, if Illinois could just keep all the talent in Illinois from going elsewhere, we'd have the building blocks to be a perennial contender. its not like there isn't talent here, its just that it always goes somewhere else.

Same old Indiana. But nah, Illinois is pretty decent too. I was surprised.

illinois is very fast and strong at their most important skill positions, which is awesome.

the only problem is that juice has yet to impress me throwing the football. if future teams stack the line to prevent mendenhall from tap dancing on their db's chests, they may need to go to mcgee, who has impressed me throwing the football.

Yeah, if IU could have stopped the run and made Juice throw more I would have felt better. But.......yeah we get pushed around too much.

I listened to the Ball State-Nebraska game on Sirius radio (unfortunately they only had the Nebraska broadcast). BSU had the game won and let it slip away. They led 37-28 in the 4th and had the ball, but threw an interception which Nebraska ran back for a touchdown. BSU still led 37-35. Next drive they kick a FG to extend the lead to 40-35. Nebraska then drives for a TD and misses a 2-point conversion that would have given them a 3-point lead, making it 41-40. BSU has a final chance to drive for a game-winning FG. They drive into Nebraska territory, but on 4th-and-5 they attempt a 55-yard FG which is wide left, making 41-40 the final score. I think two plays made the difference. First, I don't think BSU should have passed on the play that resulted in the interception. In that situation (4th quarter, 9-point lead) they didn't need another score; instead they needed to run time off the clock and avoid a turnover. Even if they eventually punted Nebraska would have had to drive down the field rather than getting a quick score on the interception. Second, asking a redshirt freshman kicker to kick a 55-yard field goal on the road in a pressure situation was asking too much. They should have tried to get the 1st down and get closer for the FG (they still had one timeout remaining). There's no guarantee they would have made the first down, of course, but I think the odds were much better than making the field goal. So BSU is now 2-2 when they could easily be 3-1 or even 4-0.

you can't touch the receiver when the ball is in the air. I suppose if a receiver grabs the db by both shoulder pads and then shoves off once the ball is in the air, technically the db is touching the receiver.

lmao atrocious pass interference call gives michigan a first and goal. Same two teams, same officiating.

Looked like pass interference to me.

I'm following Yahoo's gamecast.

but i guess the receiver is allowed to touch the defensive back while the ball is in the air

The Rose Bowl and the Arroyo Seco Valley/San Rafael Hills look really pretty in the rain and fog.

Hope the wet field and rain doesn't hurt our defensive team speed where we have a major advantage of Washington. Can't see the weather hurting our passing game since, you know, our passing sucks anyways. Anyways, here's to the Bruins salvaging the season!

I can't believe ESPN or ABC haven't switched over from the OSU/Northwestern game. it's driving me nuts not being able to watch Michigan/PSU.

here's a tip - it's michigan-psu. Michigan will win.
