I think a lot of people got caught up in the emotion of the Saints season, and their decent playoff showing, but they forgot New Orleans was just 10-6 last year, and not some unstoppable force. Peter King and many others got a bit overzealous in their praise of Payton's boys, and the first two weeks have shown they just aren't that good.

On the other hand, Dallas has looked a bit better than I gave them credit for, and so have the non-Bears NFC North squads. Dallas has a chance to vault themselves into the top of the pile this weekend, and the Bears' next 4 games suddenly look a bit tougher than I thought they'd be.

I understand what you are saying and the media circus certainly boosted them quite a bit, but pointing to the 10-6 season is a bit disingenuous to try and prove that they weren't all that good because 2 of their losses were to the Ravens and Bengals, pretty good teams last year. Another loss was AT Pittsburgh, and in our final loss of the regular season, to the Panthers, our starters only played one series.

I don't know what the problem with the 'Aints is right now, but I don't think it's just "they were playing over their heads and now it is showing". I still think they are a good team, better than average, but not great.

My personal opinion is that Payton tries to be too clever with his play calling. He's a bit of a boy wonder and perhaps it has gone to his head. He has moved away from THE fundamental aspect of offensive football: RUN THE DAMN BALL. It's not like we don't have a good running back; Deuce McAllister is averaging 4.4 ypc this season, but has only been run 20 times!! Compare this to last season when he had 53 rushing attempts in the first 3 games.

When you allow Deuce to run the ball, you will have an outstanding chance of controlling the clock, which is something the 'Aints need to do given our crappy defense.

Regardless, I think they'll figure it out and given the weakness of the NFC, I think they'll still make the playoffs. Unfortunately, starting out 0-2 strongly negates a good chance at getting homefield throughout.

The reason I pointed out the 10-6 record is because I'm pretty certain most people forget they were just 10-6 last year. They weren't nearly as good as people gave them credit for. Everybody picked them to beat the Bears, and when they got their butts handed to them, people chalked it up to the weather and decided the Saints would be the sexy pick in 08. They lost to some good teams, but it's not like any of those teams were elite and unstoppable.

Care to make a bet? I'll put a Bears logo as my avatar for all of Feb and March next year if the Bears have a better record than the Saints do at the end of the season.

I'm getting a kick of the guys in my FF league who own either Deuce or Reggie Bush that are flipping out.

FF Tip 1

Avoid RB combo's like the plague.

and btw, if the Saints have a better record than the Bears this year, I will change my screenname to "VillageIdiot", if the admins will allow it. Dead Serious.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. This isn't about the Bears. It's about the fact that New Orleans wasn't as good as some remember, and aren't as good as some thought they would be.

I'm disappointed in the direction of the Bears right now. And with the apparent improvement by the rest of the division, I'm not all that confident in the Bears racking up the wins this year. However, I'm fairly confident the Saints won't have a better record.

Briefly off topic: I admit that I took Bush in the 1st round, but I had like the 10th or 11th pick. I made up for it by picking Randy Moss in like the 4th or 5th round.

Ok...back to the thread at hand.

Another slight derailing,

I took Bush in the third round, but figured he'd be worth it due to kick and punt return TDs and the ability to break any run for a TD. Sadly, though, I'm not sure he's returning right now, so he's been a bust.

Aren't those points allocated to defense/special teams in your league?

I think if it's an offensive player that does it, it counts toward his offensive stats too. If not, I think I'm going to feel kind of dumb. :?

I'm almost positive kick returns would go to him since they're not credited to any other part of the team. Also, he's only my second running back behind Rudi Johnson, so I can live with him getting fewer points.

I know that our league specifically allows for return yardage. Lots of Bears fans in my league, and I think this change was made so someone could draft Hester...lol.

Is it wrong that I picture Theodore Roosevelt while reading that? :)

Not at all. He did once call his men cowards while at the base of San Juan Hill. They were under fire from the Spanish and he called them a bunch of cowards because they were skulking down while he was on horseback.
