Just got back from class... nice outing so far by Rich. Gotta hope the offense can score a few insurance runs, as this one is probably up to the likes of Scott Eyre.

You might want to check Eyres stats lately before you act like hes horrible. After his rough start, and demotion to mop up, his numbers are great.

I'm aware his numbers lately are excellent, but he's still not a particularly good pitcher.

Fantastic outing by Rich, much needed 7 innings. It'd be superb if the offense would get a few here too.

I don't believe there's any rule against this, so I'd run Hill out to the mound to start the 8th, make Houston show their hand with their pinch hitter, then go to Ohman or Wood depending on the handedness of the hitter. Wood then finishes the inning. Dempster closes.

No way Dempster's available.

If he steps on the mound doesnt he have to throw at least 1 pitch?

Why am I not surprised, that I check the rants section, and the Rich Hill Learn to bunt thread is bumped.

He really does need to learn to bunt.

Glad you noticed

He pitched a hell of a game, but it is still 100% fair to comment on his terrible bunting ability.

I'd hate to see him up in the playoffs with men on 1st and 2nd and nobody out.

Actually, since the Astros would be using a pinch hitter, I believe Lou is allowed to pull Rich in order to react to the new hitter.

Don't quote me on that though.

Raisin, you know anything about the kid we got from the Reds for Coats? RHP Marcus Mateo?

Had a 3.50 ERA in A ball this year... 60ish Ks in 75ish innings

How old is he?

Thought I read he was 23 or 24 -- I'll double check

He's 23

Signed out of the Dominican late - around age 20, so being at A-ball isn't too bad comparitively.

But he just finishd a year at low-A at age 23 and he was a reliever all season. Doesn't look too interesting. Acceptable K/9 though, I'm guessing he has a passable out pitch and a decent FB. Can't find a scouting report though.
