I'll make another suggestion and I fully expect to be slammed on this one: Adam Everett.

I think that depends on who's doing the "rating". On the whole I don't think he's underappreciated.

According to UZR, there's probably a 45-run defensive swing in a given year between Everett and Jeter. At the ASB Everett was on pace for +35 and Jeter was on pace for -24 per 150 (smaller sample for Everett, his season was over on June 14th). Last year, UZR had Everett 48 runs above average on the season.

PECOTA pegs Everett as a few runs above replacement level hitting, and Jeter at a 55 VORP. So, depending on how much you trust those metrics and projections, and whether Everett will ever hit at all, Jeter's probably not a whole lot better. People just don't say that though.

aaron harang has put up/is putting up excellent numbers for 3 consecutive years in an extreme hitter's park, and no one seems to acknowledge it.

Kal Daniels was an outstanding hitter before the injuries just ruined him.

Also, Glenn Davis with the Stros was good as well. Another Davis I remember a little but had to look to make sure... Alvin Davis.

More good ones:

Daniels could have been every bit as good as Puckett:

Davis could have had a Tino martinez-like career if injuries had not derailed him also:

Not sure if he's been mentioned already: Edgar Martinez

All he did was pound out 933 OPS, 147 OPS+ for 18 years

anyone who knows anything considers him the greatest DH of all time

Agreed on greatest DH of all time. The definition of underrated is a little fuzzy in this thread; I'm going by the "not exactly a household name but he should be given his numbers" def. If he played 18 seasons in the Bronx instead of Coffeetown it'd be another story.

I think Barry Larkin is underrated. While everyone acknowledges that he was very good, he was as good if not better than his contemporaries like Ripken and Ozzie yet doesn't nearly get the recognition.

Another player that I consider underrated is Tim Raines. He's hardly ever mentioned as a potential HOF player and he should be.

As I mentioned earlier, Rusty Greer is underrated as well. Until injuries took their toll, he was a good hitter. In his nine seasons, he had an OPS+ 120.

Alan Trammell should be in the HoF. Career 123.2 WARP3, .283 EqA and .352 OBP. He wasn't as good as Cal Ripken and not quite as good as Ozzie Smith (a guy who is also underrated by a lot of the SABR community IMO) and Robin Yount. But considering that folks like Pee Wee Reese, Phil Rizzuto (joke), Joe Tinker, Luis Aparicio and Rabbit Maranville are in the Hall, Trammell belongs in there too.

And, naturally, the Cubs had to sign him AFTER injuries ruined him.

That entirely depends on whether you think of Frank Thomas as a 1B or a DH forced to play 1B for a while.

IIRC, Martinez was an unmitigated disaster at 3B when he came up. Frank wasn't a GGer, but I don't recall him being a butcher either.

Chipper Jones.

It's been a while since his MVP '99 season, but he's been very good again for 3 years since a mediocre (and injury plagued) 2004. He's been so consistently good for so long that it kind of makes you forget about him, or maybe just take his #s for granted.
