Taking Marshall out after just 72 pitches was an interesting decision. I would have just let him bat in the top of the inning. And I would have said that before Ward hit into the DP but I didn't realize Ward was pinch hitting.

What happens if Marshall stays in? Does his arm fall off after 80 pitches? Geez, I know you need to protect young pitchers, but that's freakin' ridiculous.

It had nothing to do with pitch count. We went for the throat and missed.

Whose is announcing the game with Mark Grace? He is god awful!!!

Yeah he's horrible. I don't know who he is.

Daron Sutton... whoever that is. I enjoy listening to the Arizona broadcasts just for Grace though. He may not be the best color guy, but he keeps me entertained.

LOL, I didn't recognize him. He did Brewer games before. He was never this.......loud.

He never had a team to announce for that was any good.

I liked when Vasgergian did Brewer games. It's been all downhill ever since.

Lou has had a VERY short leash with Marshall all year for whatever reason.

As usual.

How was that on the ump? Two fastballs right down the chute and then Theriot clearly came around.

K2 looked a bit outside, but I'm just watching on TV.

It had nothing to do with the pitch count. Piniella was trying to break the game open there and it backfired on him.

Yeah, but I think Lou made the right call. It just didn't work.

Once again, Piniella overmanaging.

COX4 Padres games are a treat for this reason.

I don't think so.

It wasn't because they thought Marshall couldn't pitch longer.

3 innings isn't a large outing for a bullpen though, and that as likely the Cubs last big offensive chance. If the Cubs get a run or two there (which they usually do with Ward and Theriot up) then it becomes a 3-4 run game and you turn it over to the bullpen with full confidence.

That was one of those situations where in the AL, Marshall throws 8-9 innings, but it was the right move to pull him there. The difference between him and the bullpen for 2-3 innings is not enough to make up for the difference between him and a pinch hitter with the bases loaded and nobody out.

Bases loaded, 0 outs it was very possible to break the game wide open there. Lou was thinking about that. Unfortunately, Ward hit into a DP.

If it was a tie game I could understand but Marshall had allowed 2 hits and one walk and allowed the only run on a solo HR. He's pitching well and there's no need to take out an effective pitcher after just 72 pitches. The Cubs may not have needed any more runs based on how he was throwing.

I understand Lou was trying to break the game open but I don't agree with it.
