How can a GM so obsessed with acquiring bullpen arms have such a horrible bullpen?

I guess he's like the coin collector who just keeps a bunch of wheat pennies around. They may be neat, but all in all not very valuable or rare.

wasn't there somebody available to PH for Hamilton? It seems pretty apparent the LOOGY could mow down the lefties.

Could've gone to pretty much any RH hitter and left Griffey in the OF next inning.

We've gotta realize that this isn't a must win for the Reds where all the stops are gonna be pulled out. I was personally kinda surprised they hit Valentin for Jorgensen even.

the reds(edit) haven't had a "must win" in years. they are still obligated to make the moves necessary to try to win everyday. i suppose they thought their best option was hamilton and i disagreed.

There is nothing to disagree with. The only Rightys on the bench were Bellhorn (switch hitter) and Ellison. Hamilton was the right move.

Stormy time in the 9th.

They also have to do what's best for their organization, and allowing Hamilton to see big leauge lefty pitching is part of that. Fred McGriff '02 was a better hitter than Hee Seop Choi '02, but it didn't mean Fred McGriff should've been starting all those games down the stretch.
