Carlos was due for a shellacking. As of August 5th, he's was sporting an unsustainable BABIP of .179. That was due to come up at one point, and tonight was obviously one of those nights. He clearly didn't have his best stuff, but still gave up no HR and only 2 BB.

Tree, but they weren't really walking because they basically were teeing off against him. Yes, no HR's, but a few doubles and a bunch of singles that clearly did a lot of damage. This game was definitely worse than just "coming back down to Earth."

don't bring Tree into this.

I'm convinced the hand of God pulled back Murton and Fontenot's hits. Especially with Fontenot, there is no way in hell he didn't hit a home run there. He freaking crushed that ball.

A 6-5 loss to the Reds at Wrigley with Z and Harang on the mound. That's never happened before.

At least our relievers weren't throwing 30-40 foot curves...

that one's all on the ace. damn.

with the help of his manager leaving him in way to long.

Looks like most of the damage was done in the 3rd and 4th. And given the pen's job and work in the last series, I wouldn't much blame Lou.

It's up to the ace to suck it up and bring a quality start. And the heat excuse is lame - I figure a guy from the tropics should be able to handle a Midwest summer. But that's JMO.

Heat in the tropics is different than mid-west heat.

Ever been to Phoenix compared to Chicago when it's hot?

Funny you should mention that - I just came back from PHX. It's an oven, whereas both the tropics and summertime in the Midwest (I vacation in the former and was born & raised in the latter) resemble each other with respect to heat and humidity.

Agreed. My parents are retired in Phoenix and it's a different heat then the mid-west. I go to the tropics all the time for vacation and it's the same weather as the summers in Chicago. Whatever the case it's a stupid excuse. It was a night game and the weather was what in the 80's.

I was at the game and rocketed out of my seat when Fontenot hit that and then just stood there for about 30 seconds trying to convince myself that it wasn't true. I seriously got weak-kneed and felt like I was going to puke....it was so close.
