He needs to play every single day. If not, this is stupid.

Barring an injury to Pie, I think this is stupid in any event....

Pie hasn't been recalled. Plus, we can all agree that Felix still needs to ork on his swing because once the scouting report onhim got around the League he stopped hitting. Who knows, EPatt's bat may force Lou to keep him in the lineup. If not, he should sit or be demoted. We have 52 games to go, this isn't the time to stick with anyone, for a prolonged time, who isn't contributing to the offense (save DLee or Aramis who have both earned the right to work through slumps).

Well so does Murton. So we can guess that maybe he won't. If you ask me you've gotta give kids like Murton, Pie, Patterson the majority of the at bats over guys like pagan, floyd, and jones. You use those 3 if they happen to have good carreer #'s against a certain pitcher. But that's not how this team thinks. . If it were me. .

This is largely the reason I think this move is stupid. Not to re-hash the whole Murton debate, but what Lou/Hendry need to do is bring up Pie, play him in CF...acknowledge that Fontenot is a bench player, play DeRo @ 2b, & let Murton play RF full time--put non-slugging Cliff in LF... I know I'm not breaking new ground, as this seems to be the consensus on this board... Even assuming EPatt is put in CF, why? Put the, ahem, "natural" CF w/ the big club...not a guy who has played there for a stertch of games in the minors..

This is Pie's first year at the major league level. He has plenty.

It doesn't go by how many times you get sent up/down. It goes by years. You could be called up and down 10 times in the same season and it would only take one option.

How many more options does Pie have?

Pie has 2 options (including this year). Pie (and any other prospect) can be shuttled from the Minors to the Cubs all season. Only one option can be burned per season.

1) The Cubs are not going to bench Jones because of Soriano's injury. If they weren't going to do it yesterday, they certainly aren't going to do it today (and Jones is off to a fast start in August after having a decent July). In fact, one could argue that Jones is the superior player to Floyd at this point of the season.

2) Pie hasn't hit at all either time he's been called up. The organization must think that Patterson with his shorter swing will be able to adjust to major league pitching faster than Pie, and since this club needs offense right now they need to bring up the best bats they can (except apparently at backup catcher).

Also, Patterson is a top of the order hitter, which really shouldn't matter but it does in most major league organizations, and that helped Patterson get here as well.

I like how Lou manages by the "throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks" philosophy.

It's time to playyyyy....

Guess that 40 man roster move!

No more Dopirak.

or blanco to the 60 day dl?

No more Ohman. Wishful thinking.

What's he suppose to do? At this point the Cubs have to look within the organization to get a hitter for tonight's game. Even though I'm sure Lou was consulted, JH makes the final roster decisions.

Actually, would cutting ties with Ohman as well as a Rapada call up be that shocking?

That's really overstating the situation.

Pie had a line of .224/.240/.388 the first time he was up, and a .211/.290/.322 line the second time he was up. I don't know what you'd call that, but I'd call it pretty terrible. The Cubs cannot afford a player right now with an OBP under .300 playing everyday.

Guess that 40 man roster move!

That's easy...Blanco to the 60-day DL.

I was thinking the same thing. Plus, I was surprised to see that EPatt had played some CF in Iowa. I thought that was Felix's domain. Maybe it was only on his days off...

Anyway, I think it's smart that they moved EPatt to the OF because there's a logjam at 2B and he isn't the best defensive second baseman anyway.

This past week, EPatt has been playing in CF as Pie as moved to RF. The I-Cubs are trying to give a bunch of players a bit of versatility to increase their chances of getting called up so Pie is trying out RF, Soto at 1B and EPatt CF on top of his 2B and LF.

I don't understand why anyone is surprised by this move. Lou is consistent with his managerial style. He is someone who doesn't tolerate failure and in Lou's mind..

A) Murton failed him when he droped two fly balls in April

B) Pie failed him because he couldn't hit good enough to stay in the show when given two chances this season

You GOTTA love a manager that doesn't give another chance to let someone "wrong a right" (note the sarcasm).

Or maybe Soto is playing 1B as an excuse so Hendry doesn't call him up...

Pretty much. They need immediate impact and hopefully Epatt will supply that.

Ironic because there are certain players who get quite a bit of PT that make mistakes consistently and still get run out there.
