Die hard Cubs fans have put up with a lot over the years, everything from poor play to poor management decisions. We finally have what looks to be the best pitcher of the era, and once again hes stated how much he wants to remain a Cub, however, states that if not given the offer, he'll head to New York. The question is, if Cubs management, no matter what the current ownership situation lets him go, and year 99 gos by without a championship do you finally give up on the team?

When has Z said this?

From prosportsdaily

"Negotiations are on hold until the sale of the Cubs by the Tribune Company, which is contrary to Zambrano's desire. He wants to stay here, but if the Cubs don't move quickly Zambrano said he would consider playing for the Mets."

If I haven't given up on this team by now, why would I ever?

Exactly. As bad as letting Z go would be, there are far worse things the Cubs have done and could do. Especially considering the outside factors of ownership change, etc.

Well he said that because the New York Media were asking him. I'm sure if the Dodgers were in town or the Cubs were in LA, he'd the same about the Dodgers if asked if he'd play there if he didn't get a contract with the cubs.

2 high draft picks and the money to throw at, say, A-Rod would be far from the end of the world.

or say, Johan Santana.

I think Santana will be getting a much larger contract than Zambrano.

I won't ever give up on the Cubs...even if they let Z walk. I will, however, have extreme prejudice against ownership if they don't sign another player of high caliber to fill the void...
