If you watch clips of Aaron, his swing is loooong. Sure he might've been able to shorten up and still hit a ton of home runs in this era, but I think that's far from assumed.

He's famous for having some of the quickest wrists in the history of the game. I think he would have been fine.

He could have pneumatic-powered wrists, but if he wasn't more direct to the ball there's no way he's catching up to the fastballs of this era.

He faced Koufax, Fergie Jenkins, Tom Seaver, Bob Gibson, etc.

You act like he was facing highschoolers. This was only 40 years ago.

It's the depth of the pitching. 40 years is quite a long time.

I'm sure they didn't have starters like Glendon Rusch and Kip Wells back when Aaron played. While the elite players may be better now than they were back then, there were also fewer players. The talent pool is much more diluted now than it used to be with so many teams.

From Aaron's time? There's been 4 new franchises since his career ended, the influx of foreign born players makes up for that and then some.

Comparing players across generations is really really dumb.

If Meph said this, people would be freaking out.

It's scary when the devil speaks to you.

It's all relative. Aaron didn't have some advantages that Bonds has today and vice versa.

Either way, Bonds should be vetoed from baseball.

Aaron is still my Home Run king (and should be everyone else's) until someone NOT juiced up pounds more homers.

Make that chicken Sh*t Bonds take that big a** pad off his elbow and let him step into a pitch. The worthless jerk would be bailing out on every pitch.

He's a loser and a disgrace to baseball at all levels.

Explicit alert.

i still think he would have juiced. it's awfully easy for him to sit on his high horse about Bonds when he never had the temptation to begin with

I don't even know where to begin attacking that argument.

why, because Aaron says he wouldn't? sure, it's presumptuous of me to just assume he would juice, but I think it's going to come to light that the vast majority of players in the 80's and 90's were doing SOMETHING, so why would Aaron be above that had he played in that era?

It just seems like you're convicting him already. I'm not going to presume I know anything about Aaron's character past what I've seen on TV and read about over the years. However, just because "the temptation wasn't there" doesn't mean he can't speak out against it.

The temptation has never been there for me to steal a car. Does that mean I can't speak out against those who have stolen cars in the past or in the future? I'm just saying your logic is flawed.

I think it's incredibly ignorant to just assume that any player playing 30 plus years ago would take steroids if they played in this era.

Speaking of this era, as much as it is cool to see some really good talent.. the talent in today's game doesn't even COMPARE to the talent thirty and forty years ago thanks to the number of major league teams. With thirty teams and 180 plus farm teams total, the talent is very dilluted.

And enough of the "guys are throwing harder" argument. Throwing hard is the single most over rated part of the game. The fact that a person can throw a baseball 90+ is irrelevent in this game if they don't have a slider, curve, screwball or change in their arsenal. Location is something else a "hard throwing guy" needs as well or he gets the crap beat out of him in the show.

As far as Ruth goes, he was the greatest player in the game because he could have easily pitched his way into Cooperstown..but having said that, Ruth didn't play against the best in the game thanks to the racist bigotry of Kenesaw Mountain Landis and the other idiots that ruled over this game. It would have been fascinating to see Ruth have his numbers matched or exceeded by Josh Gibson (who might have been just as good or better than Ruth offensively).

BTW, I love this website.. you guys are great.

I hope Bonds breaks the record as soon as possible. I'm ready to move on from this. It's exhausting.
