One of my favorite quotes is by Oscar Wilde. He said "The two greatest tragedies in life are wanting something and getting it." And every time I see that quote, and now I look at the standards inf the National League, I see the Chicago Cubs are fighting for the division title. And I say to myself, "What happens if the Cubs finally win the World Series?" I'm gonna tell you something: after that, the Cubs would be a bunch of overpaid hashes. The Cubs would no longer be the darling. But do you know why the people like the Cubs? They don't win and #2, they love Wrigley Field. Wrigley Field reminds everybody of when times were more simple in baseball. You didn't have (watchery?) suites, you didn't have battle over salaries, you didn't have free agents. What you had was pure baseball. These new stadiums, new arenas, whatever they call em, I don't think they're the greatest. I love Wrigley Field and I love Fenway Park, and I think that's one reason so many people love the Red Sox, and now the Red Sox are just another team. Nobody cares except those fanatics in New England down to the Hartford Line. After that, you've got the Yankee fans. All I'm saying to the Cubs, the lovable bubbling Cubs, if you win it all, next year you would be just another team in the National League. People won't be rooting for you. They will root for their own team and they won't even root for the Cubs as #2. So, be careful, once you win it, again, you're just a bunch of overpaid players. This is Beano Cook - ESPN Motion.

](*,) Where do I begin?

"after that, the Cubs would be a bunch of overpaid hashes." . . . "So, be careful, once you win it, again, you're just a bunch of overpaid players."

Here's the Chicago Cubs 2007 & Beyond Salaries thanks to Jazz.

Overpaid hashes/players? Isnt that what they are now?

"The Cubs would no longer be the darling."

... So what?

"But do you know why the people like the Cubs? They don't win and #2, they love Wrigley Field. Wrigley Field reminds everybody of when times were more simple in baseball. "

Sure, we love the Cubs because of Wrigley Field. You do remember it will still be there if/when the Cubs win? Did I miss a memo or something? And "They don't win." isn't a reason why we love our team. Oh, I'm sure the traffic on NSBB went through the roof when they didn't win for crap in 2006. Love was really in the air then. The main reason we love the Cubs is because we grew up watching them. Most of us can list childhood memories, and the Cubs will probably be in many of them. Now the longtime suffrage will probably make the potential Championship even sweeter...

"I love Wrigley Field and I love Fenway Park, and I think that's one reason so many people love the Red Sox, and now the Red Sox are just another team. Nobody cares except those fanatics in New England down to the Hartford Line. "

Again, so what?

"All I'm saying to the Cubs, the lovable bubbling Cubs, if you win it all, next year you would be just another team in the National League."

Another team in the National League with a ring on it's finger. Hopefully the middle finger just for you.

"People won't be rooting for you. They will root for their own team and they won't even root for the Cubs as #2."

I always thought, maybe its just me, a World Series would bring in more bandwagon fans. But if it makes them leave, thats even better.

So by his specs, the organization should just give up. The players that worked their whole lives to get to the Majors should call it quits. The manager that stresses day and night over the club and finally has a good well-performing team should just hang up his hat. The same manager that will eventually sue the Cubs for his future ulcer? My god.

And working with his specs, I'll gladly take a World Series ring to get rid of Bandwagon fans... and have the true Cubs fans show up. I doubt that will happen, but he suggests otherwise. Why not win a World Series and have the "Overpaid hashes" earn it?

Another well thought out segment, ESPN. Keep it up.

If you're gonna let anyone on your network talk about baseball, keep it limited to Peter Gammons.

Ok this guy is full of BS..I want to win it my lifetime more than anything as do all of you, but I wonder alot " Ok so if we win it, Whats next? we finally won it, Is that inside feeling of excitement, anticipation, wanting it so bad because its been so long, gunna be gone?" I have no idea what its going to be like..But I think when and hopefeully when it happens the city will be in abosolute chaos..but when the following season starts,is some of that excitement going to be gone?? It's going to be all about, " Lets defend this title!" I just wanna see it once in my lifetime..But if it happens again after that, thats just phenomonal" The guy who wrote that article is obviously a tool and dosen't know anything..Saying we will just be another nothing NL team?? Haha ok...Thats why we average 39 K a game..highest ST attendance ever for a month in all of MLB..a national following along with the yankees and red sox which no other team has..I doubt even if we won it, attendance would drop down,no more exposure, etc. Ahole dosent know what he's tlaking about.. This is just my opinion..Feel free to discuss

I really can't tell you what's next because I don't know.

But an educated guess can come from using what happened to Boston in 2004 and beyond. If there's any die-hard Red Sox fans lurking, please let us know what went on from a fan's point of view.

Their attendence certainly didn't go down.

It's hilarious this load of flatulence comes from a guy who calls himself Beano.

I think I speak for most Cubs fans here: Beano, you're describing a problem we'd all LOVE to have.

Beano Cook is a Turkey Wadling, Notre Dame ass kissing, fat gas bag, college football analyst. What does he know about the Cubs?

Go to hell you fat old fart.

The truth is that the Cubs are an easy target until they win and that sports analysts are lazy. The Cubs winni ng would give them a great story for maybe as much as a year. The Cubs not winning gives them a well of crap to talk and write about for many years. Thinking of new things to write and or talk about takes creativity and work. The Beano Cook's of the world can just pull up the Cubs are cursed story from their files. Changes a couple names and they're set.

Somehow I've never found myself all that concerned about how many non-Cubs fans pull for the Cubs.

Winning a title would make the 2007 Cubs about as far from "just another team" as you can get Beano! Get back to the buffet table.

Who the hell is Beano Cook?

thats what im trying to find out. not only was that one of the stupidest, most idiotic articles ive ever written, but the fact that espn allows this stuff to be posted on their websites speaks volumes. bravo beano, you [expletive].

Beano Cook knows even less about baseball than he does about football.

C'mon. He predict 3 Heisman's for Ron Paulus!!

Beat me to it. He is horrible, and has been for 10 years.

This is why I never listen to obese people.

Congrats! You managed to equal the idiocy of the entire Beano article with just one short, immature, poorly thought-out, message-board-upchuck post. Tell Mom; she'll be proud!

I wish I could say that I never read posts akin to yours, but alas, they all load and display at once.

Congrats! You managed to childishly overreact to a post that was all in good fun. He must be the one immature.
