I think I read somewhere that Gagne would invoke his NTC for a deal to Boston.

All I read is that he would have to be consulted if he were to be traded to Boston. That is weird, I thought people want to goto Boston. Similarly, he wouldn't have to be consulted for a trade to Milwaukee. That is weird, I didn't think people wanted to goto Milwaukee

Hell, I live 45 minutes west and I don't want to go to Milwaukee.

I wish people would stop pretending another bullpen arm is the biggest need.

I missed the part of the OP's post where he said that a bullpen arm was the Cubs' biggest need.

I think everyone here knows your position on where you think the Cubs need help. No need to interject it unnecessarily.

More than one person has said bullpen is the biggest need. The moron who does postgame on CSN and thinks everybody on the team is great listed at his #1. Lots of people are begging for it above all else. Multiple people are pretending the lineup is fine and needs no help, yet everybody falls back to the "we could always use another reliever" nonsense.

I think reminding the ill-informed that the Cubs hitters are not that good and they need reinforcements is a lot more valuable than talk of another freaking reliever.

That's right. I forgot. You're only allowed to work on one trade at a time. So if they are talking to the Rangers about Gagne, they can't talk about a trade with anybody else.

There's no need to waste chips on Gagne. It's not about wasting valuable trade talking time, it's about wasting resources on acquiring him.

I think what is lost on many people is the possibility that an acquisition like Gagne or Silva opens up chips that small market teams want but the Cubs aren't currently willing to trade.

you pick up Gagne and Silva, and all of a sudden you can make Hill and Marmol available in a package with Murton for that big bat we are all hoping for.

Gagne and Sosa. Get it done, Jimbo.

That sounds nice :D

I'm going to Wrigley on Friday, too.

I'd mark almost as hard as when we got Nomar if Sammy came back today.

Gagne, Wood, Dempster, Howry, Wuertz, and Marmol from the right side of the pen. Not to mention Petrick, who has been great when he's been up. And the various others who have shown flashes.

Has there been a new Petrick added to the roster? The one who has pitched for the Cubs has been horrible, not great.

It would have to be one hell of a big bat to part with Hill or Marmol.

Marmol has shown flashes of being a potential all-star closer, and Hill is a very solid #2 starter.

I still think Rich is decent #3.

If you negotiate to get a certain number of teams on your no-trade list, then you want to list the ones you are most likely to be traded to. The point is to get the teams to make it worth your while. It's not that you don't want to go there, it's just that if you think there's a better chance your team will try and trade you there, you list that team, so that they have to give you something to okay the deal.

And this is why I shouldn't have lost to raw in the tournament. [-(

Yep because Ohman and Eyre are great.

Ohman is, when used properly and when was the last time Eyre got a meaningful inning? Hes a mop up man. You dont' need to have 14 set up men in your pen. Howry, Marmol, Wuertz, and (hopefully) Wood is more than enough.

Because Gagne is left handed? I don't get it.

When Marquis and Hill are pitching, its a pretty big need. Getting more than 5 innings out of them is becoming a real stretch.

If you can't add a real impact in the OF, then I don't mind anymore. Almost changed my tune in 24 hours. Having a complete shutdown bullpen in the playoffs is a huge plus. Especially if we have to face Peavy and Young twice in a 5 game series.

Besides.. Ohman is good enough to get by with as a loogy. This team has far more pressing needs than a new loogy.

I'm not in the "we really need another reliever" camp, but seriously, adding Gagne would probably make us an elite bullpen. Wood, Marmol, Howry, and Dempster would all be solid bridges. We could get by on a starter going only 5 innings without having to put in a trash pitcher.
