I could deal with getting Church and Dye and calling it done.

I would be extremely happy if Hendry were to get Church and Dye.

Latest from Rosenthal:

The Red Sox are on the verge of acquiring closer Eric Gagne, but their talks with the White Sox involving right fielder Jermaine Dye seemingly are dead, according to a major-league source.

The two teams apparently could not come to an agreement on players. Dye never was formally approached for his permission to approve a deal.

It is still possible that Dye could be traded before the non-waiver deadline at 4 p.m. ET. The Cubs, Diamondbacks and Angels could be possibilities.

The Diamondbacks have been shopping right fielder Carlos Quentin for pitching help. However, they are more likely to promote Justin Upton from Class AA than trade for Dye.

I'd like Quentin on our team. Send them Marquis. :D Seriously, I'd consider Marshall for Quentin. I think Gallagher could be called up and do reasonalbly well. Marmol could always be tried in the starting rotation again as well.

church AND dye? Even one of them confuses me: where would these guys play and who would they replace on the roster?

of course hendry said he is going to stand pat. what was he supposed to say? we REALLY need another bat! No, because then he looks desperate and would get fleeced. I'm not sure if he'll do anything or not, but lets wait until 4:00 before we conclude that he's going to do nothing.

Exactly.

Can I have the right to say "I told you so" if nothing happens?

I'll give you the right to call me an idiot if a trade happens.

Not really. I'm not the one stating that anything is (or isn't) going to happen.

Obviously, the more likely outcome is that nothing happens.

Just joking around. Pretty dead for trade day 8-)

Since we already have 3 lefties in the rotation--and could for the next several years--perhaps Veal is expendable. Veal's trade value has certainly increased again with his recent upswing. What about a package centered around Veal for Dye?

I didn't catch all of it, but Phillips was just talking about the Cubs and Griffey, said he'd be a great fit but "the Reds are holding".

yep that was the extent of it. He thought he'd be great in Chicago's CF or RF. Gammons said he'd like to see him back in the playoffs.

no real link to the cubs, though. the reds -- as far as the media knows -- don't seem to be talking to teams about Dunn/Griff anymore. :(
