Rosenthal is now reportingthat the Braves are closing in on getting Dotel from the Royals.

The Mets and Phillies better look out. With Tex and Dotel, the Braves have to be the frontrunner for the division.

Teixeria is a big improvement over the Braves current production from 1B, but they are 4.5 games back with 2 months to play. And it's not like the Mets don't have a pretty good lineup. If they were tied, probably give the nod to the Braves, but 4.5 games ain't nothing.

The Braves have a lot of depth in the minor leagues. This is making these moves possible.

There is also 100% synergy between him, his scouts, and Cox. They let their young players play through their slumps at this level rather than jerking them back and forth between the minors and big league club.

Can't argue there. The love for veterans is just crazy sometimes.-

Exactly. And they still have to pass the Phils. In the WC, they have to pass 2 of SD, LA, Arizona and 1 of Cubs, Milwaukee. Unless they get Johan Santana, they are gonna have an uphill battle.

ESPN says the Rangers are going to trade Dotel to the Braves for Kyle Davies.

Nice job Hendry.

Get off the couch and make some moves.

Do you want Dotel or something?

Hell yeah.

Dotel is a great pitcher.

Better than Eyre or Ohman and maybe Howry.

The prospects would be better spent getting a bat imo, especially with the potential of Wood coming up this week. We only have so much ammo, and I don't see that being of great need.

I prefer to stay away from guys with rebuilt arms.

Williamson, and Miller haven't turned out to be so well with new arms, and Dotel, with his aggressive motion, won't be that great very long.

The bullpen isn't a problem for us. We have few trading chips as it is. I prefer not to waste them on Octavio Dotel.

The Royals would have asked for one of our pitchers who we couldn't afford to give up.

He's a good GM, something we know little of on the north side of Chicago.

No, we have a good GM. His name is Jim Hendry. A bad GM would have traded Marshall or Hill for a relief pitcher with a history of arm injuries.

Or Ricky Nolasco and Sergio Mitre for Juan Pierre

My sources are saying that the Dotel to the Braves deal may not be as close as originally thought.

Ok....my source happens to be this article from MLB.com.

Link.

While the Braves have made inquiries about Royals closer Octavio Dotel, an American League source said there is no validity to reports that have indicated the teams are close to finalizing a deal.

In fact, this high-ranking official said Braves general manager John Schuerholz won't be able to get into any serious trade talks until the deal to bring Texas' Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay to Atlanta is finalized on the Rangers' end. It's expected to be completed on Tuesday after all necessary medical reviews are completed.

Until then, Schuerholz is unable to enter any other serious negotiations, including those that would fulfill his desire to improve his pitching staff. One National League scout said he wouldn't be surprised to see the GM land a veteran starting pitcher before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline arrives.

Dotel is by no means a sure thing. He's only thrown about 22 innings this year, and recently been hit hard.

The last line is the most telling. I think he'd rather not waste his bullets on a guy whos going to throw 20 innings for him the rest of the year and would rather get a starting pitcher.
