Put me in the 'give Fontenot a couple days off' camp. Ronny tore up AAA and he deserves another shot to show what he can do. If he can't get it done, put Fontenot back in the starting lineup and see if he can make some adjustments. Right now, Font isn't getting it done.

I actually like DeRosa at 2B and Theriot at SS. When DeRosa is in RF, play whoever is hot between Cedeno and Fontenot. Give Fontenot a few days off and let Cedeno contribute a little. Cedeno could be a nice buffer for Theriot and Fontenot, who both seem to be a little more polished than Ronny.

I like DeRo at second too, but when he isn't playing second and giving Fontenot's recent performance I'd start Cedeno at second, not short.

Theriot has proven he can handle short.

And also, I like your opinion on how to use Cedeno, he seems like the kind of guy who gets other guys hot by starting in their place for a few days.

Cedeno's one pitch at bat today is the very reason why he was in the minors to begin with. don't be fooled by his numbers this year at iowa's hitters haven, look at his numbers in the majors this year and last.

yep, cause we all know you can only look at one year's worth of PAs to judge a player.

....and Cedeno has proven he's brutal @ 2B.

Tough luck for Cedeno. Riot is a better Shortstop and has earned his right to live there, if Cedeno is going to play he either has to outplay Riot or move to second and out play DeRo or Fontenot.

It means he gives a guy a rest and lets the starter figure out his swing and come back in and hit well.

Simple baseball logic.

That's pretty ridiculous baseball logic. How many every day players need to take a few days off every so often to "figure out their swing"? And taking a few days off periodically isn't going to "get other guys hot." That makes no sense.

So "he seems like the kind of guy who gets other guys hot by starting in their place for a few days" was a very roundabout way of saying you think Cedeno makes a good backup?

yes, he's certainly not a starter.

Just wanted to point out nothing has worked for JJ. .241/.308/.333 overall this season, .283/.370/.326 post all star break. .188/.350/.250 in his last 7 days. Jacque has been unproductive all year long. He had a nice little streak there where he drew a couple walks and found some holes for singles, but he has shown no power all year and has been a big drag on the team.

Alright I was dead wrong on JJ.

Put the lefty Fontenot back in the #2 where he gets more pitches to hit...

.389/.411/.985 in that spot... It also breaks up the RH monotony at the top...

One of the big reasons that Fontenot's numbers look so good in the 2 spot is that he was put there when he was hot, and as soon as he started to cool they moved him further down the lineup. That's going to lead to a distorted picture of that spot in the lineup.

x2, I don't understand why everyone thinks Theriot sucks, he's proved he can run the bases, hit the ball, and field his position(SS). What else is there for him to do?

Rob homerun balls?

well he has almost no power. But as the team is constructed, he's the best option at SS and should be playing there pretty much every day.

I'd be almost certain that he is above average for most statistics for a SS. Where can I find those comparisons to league average?
