My god....for anyone stuck in St. Louis I'm sure you can attest that listening to last nights game was just painful. Even winning I wanted to stab my ear with a Pencil.

You could tell at the beginning of the game they had decided in a production meeting they were gonig to focus on Zambrano the entire game...anytime he smirked, shook his head, scratched himself, had a tranier look at his foot or did ANYTHING they had a camera on him and kept saying "he really needs to grow up" "he's not helping himself" "he's a hot head" "he goes to the beat of his own drum" (that one was for hustling a ground ball out)....just drove me nuts....

In contrast, Kip Wells was shaking his head, staring at the ump, frowning, standing with his hands on his hips....and he was "professional"....Tony and the entire Cards bench bitched and moan about every pitch and that's fine.....

Thank God I'm going to the game tonight...I couldn't watch another one that they called.

:ast night I actually thought that they were tolerable. I guess I expect the other team's announcers to be somewhat homers. At least they don't take it over the line like, Hawk and DJ.

Buck was all over Z for being too emotional, then had to admit Z had another strong outing later in the game. It was pretty funny.

It's just very painfully clear that Buck digs through the Cubs local stuff to find ammo to use against us when he does his broadcasts. Pathetic, really.

That's what made me so mad...not to get political, but its almost like listening to Ann Coulter moderate a presidental debate...I'm sure its fine if you're republican but as a dem you'd want to stab yourself in the ear....

it just seemed they went out of their way at EVERY opportunity to try and make Z look bad....

That's a great analogy. I thought the same thing about them dishing it out on Zambrano. It's like they are trying their hardest to make Z some huge villain or something.

It was kinda nice when around the 5th inning or so, my FOX blacked out and it switched to radio on the TV.

Also... how about Buck's pathetic Smithers impressions he kept doing last night!?

Buck is the local play-by-play guy for the Cardinals. Much like Chip did when with the Cubs, Buck does all Cardinals games except Saturday when he does the Fox national game.

Not having Comcast, and needing to watch non-WGN/ESPN games on mlb.tv for the past 3 years makes me appreciate Len & BB even more. There are some terrible pbp teams out there for various teams..

It's not just those in the St. Louis area that had to suffer; those of us watching the game on Extra Innings also got the Cardinals telecast. :(

Personally, I think if you're paying to watch the games you should be able to choose either team's telecast, much like you can with Gameday Audio or, I believe, XM.

I watch all the Cardinal games, as I live in the St. Louis area. Over the years I have heard some of the dumbest s#*t come outta the Mad Hungarian's mouth. Last night I actually thought Buck and Al were tolerable, and they did a good job in the later innings giving the Cubs props and acknowledging the suckdom currently facing the Cardinals.

It's definitely ironic they were making an issue of Z's reactions on the mound - fidgeting, sighing, etc... As EVERY game that Wells has pitched this year that's all they talk about - complaining about how uncomfortable he looks on the mound, fidgeting, etc. Yet they didn't mention anything about Kip last night!!

Be thankful you didn't have to listen to Mike Shannon during the game...

I didn't turn it on until relatively late, and most of what I heard were them commenting, in the negative, about how the Cardinals were reacting to calls. They did a really bad job with the whole 3 or 4 balls thing. And they obviously had a few Zambrano comments, but they didn't come close to the outright disdain the Milwaukee announcers have for Z.

I was impressed with them calling out Molina for his actions during the at bat that started 3-0 before he K'd.

That's actually not the case anymore. Buck only does about 10 local Cards broadcasts a year. The rest of the time Dan McLaughlin does PBP with Hrabosky.

Other than his FOX commitments, not sure what else Buck does all season.

Interesting, I hadn't heard he wasn't doing Cards broadcasts all the time anymore. Makes sense though, doesn't seem like he'd need the work what with inexplicably being the lead Fox broadcaster on every sport known to mankind.

I was all over the game thread, and flash chat plotting his assignation.

Funniest moment to me:

Al "This is when Albert is at his very best" referring to men on base and RBI situations.

Mid-sentence, Pujols popped out to short right/deep second. No mention of anything, dead-air for 15 seconds. I gotta believe someone hit the sneeze button and swore to themselves.

Was at the game so didn't hear their comments. It's okay to do that once, but twice? Especially for a catcher, that's bad.

On a somewhat separate note, they had Al on 1380 this morning here. Man was he ever cranky. He basically said this year is over, sell off whatever you can get value for and look a few years ahead.

Also expressed doubt that TLR would be back next season.

Both pitches were right down the middle. I think it's okay to do it once on a borderline, but neither was borderline. And then he tried calling timeout while Zambrano was in his motion.

I will give Buck credit for calling that correctly. There was never a hint that they thought Molina should have gotten the TO.

But that's about as far as I'll go. The rest of the game was quite humorous, actually. Even the camera crew was getting in on the act, showing every little thing Zambrano was doing, trying to make it out like he was losing it or something. Maybe they were just hoping he'd lose it.

Harry was entertaining with anybody, and I love Jack Brickhouse, even though he was a total homer. But watching the Cubs for many years, I definitely like and appreciate the Len/Bob combo, they're good.

For other teams, Denny Matthews here in KC is just terrific, it is so easy to watch a Royals game. I could listen these guys broadcast every Cubs game and be perfectly content. Smoooooth.

Vin Scully is so old now, but he was/is so very good. The last of the old-time broadcasters still working.

I think it is ironic that our two most-hated rival teams (Cards and Sox) arguably have the two worst broadcast teams, as well.
