Speaking of Dye and Dunn, check out Burrell since July 1:

.391 average

.525 OBP

.696 SLG

1.221 OPS

4 HRs

13 RBIs

He makes $14M in 2008. Coincidentally, so do Dempster, Jones and Eyre combined. With Lieber and Garcia free agents, Phillies could transition Dempster back to a starter, replace Burrell with Jones and see if a change of scenery helps Eyre.

That trade would look like the Hundley for Karros and Grudzielanek deal I have been thinking about.

Burrell has never played RF, so Soriano would have to move to RF. That plus the fact that Pat is so inconsistent would be disadvantages.

The potential advantage of adding Burrell over Dye or Dunn is that Hendry would in all likelihood not have to give up any farm talent.

Dye makes the most sense if nothing too valuable is given up. Adding Dunn makes little sense to me - his option for 2008 is voided if he's traded, liability in the field and less than .700 OPS against left-handers.

I've wanted the Cubs to try for Burrell for years now. I think he'd be a great fit and wouldn't cost too much -- I'm pretty sure the Phillies desperately want to get rid of him (scapegoat type situation).

The about a Burrell trade is that the Phils are still in the race. While I think the Phils would gladly trade Burrell even in the race, I think they would want something that would help them right now. I don't know if another contending team would give that up....Cubs included.

I think the offer would have to start with Moore, because they could use a 3B of the future. I would think Gallagher would be a nice help for them in the future. But for now, I would think they would need a RP. I'm sure they would want Marmol, but Dempster makes the most sense salary wise.

I'd like to see what he could do here in Chicago, granted that the Phils pick up a bit of his salary. My roommate is from Philly and says Burrell is not liked down there.

yes i can definitely confirm this (him not being liked in philly)

To be fair, is there anybody that the Philly fans like? And not just the Phillies either, I'm talking any of their sports teams.

Yeah, they even booed Mike Schmidt...

That's why I always say that after a business trip to Philly the best thing to come out of that city was my flight home.

Didn't they throw batteries at him as well, or am I thinking of another situation?

no, that was J.D. Drew, and I'm proud to say that I was at that game.

That one doesn't surprise me at all. When he refused to sign he played for the St. Paul Saints. I started booing him and everyone asked why. I explained that he didn't think an $11 million dollar signing bonus was enough coming out of college and pretty soon I had more people booing.

If we could move Jones and Eyre in a deal, I wouldn't even ask Philly to eat some of the salary. I think Burrell could be very interesting for us.
