From Keith Law's chat on ESPN today:

Matt (Campbellsville, KY): Keith, I absolutely love your stuff! I have a question that I've heard nobody mention, please throw me a bone here! Is there any possibility that the Cubs could trade for Teixeira! He played OF early in his career and the Cubs could stick him in Right Field. I know they have interest in Lofton too. I would give up Pie, Veal, and another low prospect for a package of Teix and Lofton or Gagne/Otsuka! Is that totally crazy????

Keith Law: (1:27 PM ET ) Have not heard them in on Teixeira at all. I don't think he can play the outfield.

Rosenthal just updated his post with what the Braves have offered for Tex.

From the Braves, the Rangers would receive three highly regarded young players — catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class AA left-hander Matt Harrison and Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus — while giving up only Teixeira.

While the Angels possibly have did this..

The Angels, meanwhile, are offering two players for Teixeira, according to sources. The Rangers want a third piece added — something the Angels probably won't do unless they get a second player back.

First baseman Casey Kotchman is part of the Angels' proposal. The other player is a pitcher, most likely left-hander Joe Saunders, but possibly Class AAA right-hander Ervin Santana. The Rangers also want a top prospect, perhaps Class AAA third baseman Brandon Wood.

January 6, 2006: Rangers trade Adrian Gonzalez, Terrmel Sledge and Chris Young to the San Diego Padres for Adam Eaton, Akinori Otsuka, and Billy Killian (minors).

Wow. I think it's hard to even TRY to conjure up a trade that lopsided. Texas should never trade with any team ever again, for their own good.

What about Francisco Liriano, Joe Nathan and Boof Bonser for AJ Pierzjackass?

Braves fan here at work hates that deal. I can't believe Rangers would trade Tex in the division unless they got a lot more than Saunders and Kotchman.

Latest from Rosenthal about the Dodgers:

"The Dodgers remain the wild card in the Teixeira sweepstakes. They proposed first baseman James Loney, outfielder Andre Ethier and Class AAA right-hander John Meloan for Teixeira and right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit, according to one source."

You would think in a deal for 3 players, that Texas would want more than 1 pitcher.

I know Teixeira is a stud, but I think that'd be a mighty fine deal for the Rangers.

That's a nice deal too... Loney is gonna be a good player. Ethier's production is going to be very similar to what Murton did last year, and Meloan would probably be in the Rangers' bullpen in 2008. Meloan apparently has an ugly max-effort delivery though.

I'm guessing the Dodgers wouldn't discuss Clayton Kershaw, or at least wouldn't consider putting him in a deal where they're already parting with Loney.

It appears the Angels have ended their pursuit of Teixeira. The Rangers wanted three players. The first two had been agreed upon: Kotchman and Saunders, but the two teams could not agree on the third player.

The Rangers wanted Brandon Wood or Adenhardt. The Angels wanted to include someone with a much lower ceiling.

I don't think Tex. gets traded, and I would not want to pay him more than Soriano which is what the initial reports have him getting come this offseason.

If what I'm hearing is true about the Rangers' asking price on Teixeira, the Cubs don't have the bullets to get him.

Think package of Pie, Hill or Marshall, and another high-level prospect (Patterson, Veal, Gallagher).

I'm not sure that would be enough in the Rangers' eyes either.

Considering they have Tex for another season, I think Daniels has taken the MO of shooting for the moon and holding onto him if no one bites. He'll probably revisit trading him in the offseason and then make a final attempt at next year's deadline.

Found this on a braves message board:

"Was reading the forum earlier and someone from the NY Post said the Rangers were trying to move Laird and Felix Pie could be part of the deal. What if it was a 3-team trade between us, Chicago, and Texas.....I tried to come up with something but doubt it would work. Doesn't seem like Texas would be getting all it could with trading Gagne and Teixeira in the same deal.

Atlanta gets:

1B Mark Texieira from Texas

CF Felix Pie from Chicago

Chicago gets:

CL Erig Gagne from Texas

C Gerald Laird from Texas

OF Jordan Schafer from Atlanta

Texas gets:

C Jarrod Saltalamacchia from Atlanta

SS Elvis Andrus from Atlanta

SP Matt Harrison from Atlanta

LF Matt Murton from Chicago"

Just thought it was funny because we get completely ripped off in that deal and shows how much everyone overvalues their own prospects.

The Cubs get raped in that deal. And I don't think Texas is getting enough for both Gagne and Tex. It's a good deal for the Braves.

Throw Renteria back the Cubs way and give the Braves back their minor league outfielder.

Here's some of Rosenthal's comments on a possible Tex deal.

The Braves, according to major-league sources, have made the Rangers a whopper of an offer for first baseman Mark Teixeira. The Angels, sources say, also have submitted a substantial bid.

From the Braves, the Rangers would receive three highly regarded young players — catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class AA left-hander Matt Harrison and Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus — while giving up only Teixeira.

The Rangers want a better pitching prospect than Harrison, a source says.

Kotchman and Saunders are more established than any of the players the Braves are offering. However, Kotchman's upside might not be as high as the switch-hitting Saltalamacchia's. And the Rangers would require the Angels to pay a higher price because they play in the same division.

The Dodgers remain the wild card in the Teixeira sweepstakes. They proposed first baseman James Loney, outfielder Andre Ethier and Class AAA right-hander John Meloan for Teixeira and right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit, according to one source

If I were the Rangers, I'd take the Braves offer if it truly exists.

Stark echos a lot of what Rosenthal has written...

What they have done, as we reported in Friday's Stark Market, was tell Texas they were willing to include Casey Kotchman and Joe Saunders, but they've said no way, no chance, no shot on adding either their most advanced pitching prospect, Nick Adenhart, or their most advanced minor-league hitter, third baseman Brandon Wood. And that, we're hearing, is a line they've drawn in permanent ink. The Braves also appear to be digging in on their own offer -- of Jarrod Saltalamacchia, shortstop prospect Elvis Andrus and arguably the Braves' best left-handed pitching prospect, Matt Harrison. The Braves still would like to get another player back -- presumably left-hander C.J. Wilson. But there were indications Saturday the Braves might be willing to make a 3-for-1 trade, although that would open the possibility that the names could change slightly. At this point, the Braves and Angels appear to be treading water, awaiting an answer. But we'd bet they'll tread for only so long.

Are the Diamondbacks getting in on the Teixeira sweepstakes?

rangers.mlb.com[/url]"]The Arizona Diamondbacks may be a late entry into the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes.

Major League sources said that the Diamondbacks, who went into Saturday's games with the fifth fewest runs in the National League, have expressed interest in Teixeira. They also have a young first baseman in Conor Jackson to offer, but the Rangers are also looking for pitching.

The buzz among industry sources is that the Rangers have been heavily scouting the Diamondbacks farm system in case Arizona steps up its efforts. The Diamondbacks won their eighth straight game on Saturday after beating the Atlanta Braves and are putting the pressure on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

Olney also just confirmed on Baseball Tonight that the D'backs are in the hunt for Teixiera.
